The authorities in Greater Pibor Administrative area have reported the prices of local vegetable have risen in the recent weeks due to shortage of local produces following flooding in Pibor Market.

Speaking to this news outlet, Hon. Jacob Werchum, the Minister for information in Greater Pibor Administrative area said the flooding which has submerged most of the nearby villages affected the local vegetable and crops protections.

“The market is affected- now when you come here, there are not enough vegetable and the few they have are very high. This problem is triggered by flooding” he said.

Hon. Jacob stated that a Kg of fresh Okra which used to cost SSP 5000 is now sold at SSP 10,000.

He added that the rise in local vegetable prices could be attributed to shortage of local produces due flooding in Pibor.

“Most of the nearby Villages have been cut off by the flood and there is no enough supply of local products in Pibor Market. Due to flooding, Residents are no longer producing and that has affected the market.’’ Jacob added

According to official, the all routes connecting nearby villages and the Pibor town have been cut off entirely by the flood.

Last month, Pibor Market got submerged partially by flood waters, Some Shops were submerged by the flooding, cutting off the routes connecting Pibor town with the villages and surrounded the government secretariat in Pibor.
