{"id":10468,"date":"2022-11-09T04:20:00","date_gmt":"2022-11-09T04:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=10468"},"modified":"2022-11-08T21:11:21","modified_gmt":"2022-11-08T21:11:21","slug":"lawmakers-annoyed-over-ministers-myopic-comment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2022\/11\/09\/lawmakers-annoyed-over-ministers-myopic-comment\/","title":{"rendered":"<strong>Lawmakers annoyed over Minister\u2019s \u2018myopic\u2019 comment<\/strong>"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By William Madouk Garang<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The State Minister of Information &amp; Communication, Andruga Mabe has found himself in rock and hard place, after he uttered reckless comment in which he says \u2018parliament endorses myopic views of analog group\u2019.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mabe\u2019s comment infuriated the members of the House and they swiftly demanded the minister an apology, as well as to come clean and clarify whether the comment was his view or state government\u2019s position.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Minister Mabe was among the three ministers who were summoned by the August House to answer questions over a \u2018controversial\u2019 contract of e-Government and e-Tax that were awarded to a foreign firm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI do not imagine that this powerful August House, renowned in its oversight roles of legislation can simply endorse the myopic views of the analog team of technocrats, so that the E-government system is dismissed to leave analog system of governance to prevail over the CEG,\u201d Mabe told MPs during his presentation of answers on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the chief whip for Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM) party, Jacob Aligo Lo-Ladu protested the statement saying the minister has insulted the August House and demanded for an apology.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cHowever, I was concerned with the way our colleague the Minister of Information &amp; Communication describes this house in his presentation when he was explaining the issue between analog and digital group,\u201d Aligo said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cThe Rt. Hon. Speaker said this statement is an insult to this House and before we proceed let the minister walk to that podium and apologise,\u201d he continued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Another MP added that \u201cin addition to what SPLM chief whip has said,\u2026 since he is the official spokesperson of the state government then he also needs to let us know whether calling this August House \u2018myopic\u2019 is the official position of &nbsp;the government or his own opinion\u201d. In his apology, the State Minister of Information and Communication, Mr. Mabe conveyed his sincere apology, withdrew the statement and explained the statement as solely his own views.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI know using terminologies sometimes affect the flow of the information and I sincerely and deeply regret having used the word \u2018myopia\u2019 which means being \u2018shortsighted\u2019,\u201d Mabe regrets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was meaning that the analog group didn\u2019t see far before running to seek the help of August House, I am not actually saying it\u2019s the August House that is \u2018myopian\u2019 so my sincere apology,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On October 5, the State assembly summoned three ministers to explain a controversial E-government Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) they signed with a private company \u2013 MAC.
