{"id":12877,"date":"2023-04-13T05:12:00","date_gmt":"2023-04-13T05:12:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=12877"},"modified":"2023-04-12T19:14:32","modified_gmt":"2023-04-12T19:14:32","slug":"activist-slams-cabinet-against-halting-national-electoral-laws","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2023\/04\/13\/activist-slams-cabinet-against-halting-national-electoral-laws\/","title":{"rendered":"Activist slams cabinet against halting national electoral laws"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>By Bida Elly David<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Executive Director Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has slammed the council of ministers against halting the national electoral act being the key bill to determine the Country\u2019s possibility for national election.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a statement extended to No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper yesterday, Edmund Yakani said the tendency of halting the bill will contribute passively to the peace agreement resulting to more problems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI am blaming the Executive for delaying the national electoral law because last week\u2019s council of ministers was supposed to deliberate on the national elections act amendment but they dropped it off their agenda. Delaying the elections laws means technically delaying the conduct of national election process,\u201d he echoed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The activist said that passing the law to reconstitute the National Electoral Commission (NEC) being a body that will oversee the process of conducting democratic election for people to choose their competent leaders is crucial.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Yakani called on the Council of ministers to immediately pass the national election law this week to avoid delays of the process so that the Country is not contradicted with the calamities that are not human.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIn this week\u2019s Council of ministers, I urge the council to pass the national electoral laws so that at least the move towards the conduct of democratic elections is institutionalized through ratification by the national parliament,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Moreover, Yakani pointed out that with the enactment of the electoral law, the reconstitution of the constitutional review commission and the political party act will be simply executed with ease.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CEPO\u2019s boss warned the executive against giving lame excuses on the issues that concern the nation and the welfare of the whole citizens saying that they will be accountable in case the Country descends back to chaos.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Bida Elly David The Executive Director Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has slammed the council of ministers against halting the national electoral act being the key bill to determine the Country\u2019s possibility for national election.
