The acting Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deng Dau\u00a0Deng\u00a0has urged South Sudanese citizens in Khartoum to take measures by keeping indoors in order to mitigate exposure to gun fire.
Minister Deng told No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper yesterday, that the situation in Sudan is still difficult with no in and out flights as the Sudanese airspace is closed due to the armed conflicts taking\u00a0toll in\u00a0Khartoum\u00a0including other cities.
\u201cFirst\u00a0and foremost, the situation now is so complex and so quiet. If you look at it, you know there\u00a0is\u00a0no\u00a0flight\u00a0that can go to Sudan in and out because the airport is\u00a0closed,\u201d\u00a0he elaborated.
\u201cSo\u00a0I advise our citizens through our embassy that all South\u00a0Sudanese\u00a0like the rest of the nationals in\u00a0Khartoum\u00a0should stay indoors and stop moving so that they\u00a0cannot\u00a0get\u00a0into crossfire,”\u00a0Deng added.
Sudan was engulfed in a deadly battle last Saturday morning\u00a0within the\u00a0Khartoum city between the Sudan Arm Forces (SAF) headed by Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and\u00a0Rapid Support Forces (RSF) being led by Gen Mohamed Hamdan\u00a0Dagalo,\u00a0who is also called\u00a0Hemedti.
The two generals appeared to be struggling to capture power from each\u00a0other,\u00a0with both sides accusing one another of starting the fight. And Gen\u00a0Hemedti,\u00a0is the deputy leader of the sovereignty council, of which Gen Abdel Fattah\u00a0al-Burhan\u00a0is the president.
According to a UN\u00a0report,\u00a0about 185 people have been killed while 1,800 have sustained injuries since the onset of the conflicts over the weekend.
The differences between the two wings of the Sudanese security pillar RSF and SAF have flared up as in the era after the ouster of Sudan’s longtime ruler, the former Omar al-Bashir, who was overthrown from power in April 2019.
Besides, both Hemeti and Burhan ousted Sudanese prime minister\u00a0Adallah Hamdok\u00a0in 2021 by seizing power from the civilian authority.
But because South Sudan relies heavily on oil exported through Sudan to international markets, the government said it had not received information about the oil’s impact on the ongoing war in Sudan.
\u201cSo far\u00a0we have not received any\u00a0report\u00a0from the\u00a0Ministry\u00a0of petroleum nor from the team that are in Port Sudan on the message of\u00a0oil\u00a0which means oil has not been affected and\u00a0that\u00a0is good news for\u00a0us,\u201d\u00a0Dau stated
On another note, South Sudanese citizens who went to\u00a0khartoum\u00a0for treatment were left\u00a0unattended,\u00a0and one patient died in Le-auram hospital when doctors there failed to show up.
However, the acting Minister of Foreign Affairs said they\u00a0had\u00a0instructed the embassy to do its best to follow up on the welfare of South Sudanese in\u00a0Sudan\u00a0including the one who passed on.
\u201cWe\u00a0have heard about this report and we have directed our embassy to be able to do their utmost functions to help in\u00a0the\u00a0critical\u00a0situation\u00a0because not only the dead but also the ones waiting to be operated\u00a0on. But\u00a0then the doctors were nowhere to be\u00a0seen\u00a0so we are waiting and requesting the embassy to put their utmost [effort] to see the wellbeing and welfare of South\u00a0Sudanese\u00a0including the one that died on\u00a0Sunday\u201d.
The IGAD is set to send three heads of state to Sudan to try to find a solution after it had held its crisis meeting virtually on Sunday. The meeting resolved to tap\u00a0President Salva Kiir, William Ruto of Kenya, and Omar Guelleh of Djibouti as a delegation to meet with the\u00a0Sudan’s\u00a0warring generals.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
