A three days consultative and civic education workshop on federalization process in South Sudan concluded Thursday in Yambio town in Western Equatoria State with calls for transition to cooperative federalization system of governance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Participants\u00a0at the just concluded workshop who expressed their views on the subject are fully in support and embraced the idea of\u00a0cooperative way of federal system of governance to lead the country.
Cooperative federalism is a system of governance where the federal and state governments both work together on a variety of issues and programs.
Speaking during\u00a0closer\u00a0of the\u00a0workshop, speaker of\u00a0Western Equatoria transitional legislative assembly, Wakila Charles\u00a0Abdu\u00a0said the idea of\u00a0federal system\u00a0would\u00a0be good for South Sudan and believes the three regions agree to it.
\u201cThere\u00a0are so many comparisons. I\u00a0am sure there was\u00a0a\u00a0research conducted compared to where we came from up to this\u00a0time, it\u00a0is good for us to go for\u00a0federalism there\u2019s\u00a0a lot of things that\u00a0needs\u00a0to be done and\u00a0a\u00a0lot of good things will be coming our\u00a0way.\u201d Wakila\u00a0explained.
Another participant, a church leader, Rt.\u00a0Rvd.\u00a0Yepeta Natana also echoed that the\u00a0three-day\u00a0consultative workshop has been so beneficial, fruitful and rewarding in a way that it made them (participants)\u00a0gain\u00a0a lot from the responses given by\u00a0audience to the questions that\u00a0were\u00a0raised about the nature of federalism.
\u201cCooperative\u00a0governance unites us together to have one voice and be able to lead the country despite being in different\u00a0states,”\u00a0commented Natana.
The consultative workshop was organized by the\u00a0Ministry\u00a0of\u00a0Federal\u00a0affairs in collaboration with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It brought together over 150 delegates from the national and state governments including members of parliament from the transitional national legislative assembly and council of states.
Other representatives included members from\u00a0civil society,\u00a0faith-based\u00a0groups, chiefs women and youth associations.
The minister of federal affairs,\u00a0Losuba Ludoru Wongo\u00a0remarked that South Sudan will transition into\u00a0federal government at the end of the\u00a0country’s\u00a0current transitional administration.
Meanwhile,\u00a0an activist, Ms. Victoria\u00a0Yotoma Jacob\u00a0the deputy chairperson of\u00a0new vision\u00a0for sustainable development-a civil society organization representative in\u00a0attendance,\u00a0stressed they are behind the move and support the transition to\u00a0federal system of governance.
\u201cWe understood\u00a0that these\u00a0resolutions have\u00a0been\u00a0passed, what\u00a0we need to do is to understand, analyze, critique\u00a0it\u00a0and come\u00a0out\u00a0with our final recommendation so that the high level of committee or commission members can go and put forth the documentation of this\u00a0process “
Victoria explained that by\u00a0welcoming the federalization governance drive\u00a0doesn’t\u00a0mean they are against the current leaders.
\u201cWe\u00a0are not asking for the current leaders to be\u00a0removed but\u00a0instead we are asking them to change their mindset, mentality, and spirit to a better and good governance system whereby they will consider\u00a0much\u00a0social accountability, transparency and implementing policies, service delivery after a community\u00a0consultation “.
Similar workshops are due to be held in other states across South Sudan to promote civic education and engagement on the importance of\u00a0federalization system of governance.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
