The local authority in Akobo County has bitterly dismissed the alleged shifting of allegiance by traditional chiefs to President Salva Kiir\u2019s camp, the SPLM, saying that it\u2019s a \u2018concocted\u2019 propaganda by anti-peace elements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This comes after\u00a0a \u2018wild\u2019\u00a0propaganda surfaced on social media alleging\u00a0that\u00a0the traditional authority of Akobo West had declared their allegiance to the Sudan\u00a0People\u2019s\u00a0Liberation Movement in Walgak Payam.
Reacting to the matter,\u00a0the\u00a0commissioner of Akobo County of Jonglei State, John Chuol\u00a0Tot\u00a0stated\u00a0that,\u00a0the information is a\u00a0mere’ fabrication’\u00a0meant\u00a0to’ soil’\u00a0the image of chiefs.
\u201cAkobo County\u2019s\u00a0leadership sighted the wild propaganda circulated on social media\u00a0that\u00a0traditional\u00a0authorities\u00a0of Akobo west had declared their allegiance to\u00a0the\u00a0SPLM political party in Walgak\u00a0Payam,\u201d\u00a0Tot said in\u00a0a\u00a0statement seen by this outlet.
\u201cThis\u00a0is\u00a0a\u00a0complete fabrication circulated by the\u00a0anti-elements\u00a0of peace to\u00a0jeopardize\u00a0and\u00a0tarnish\u00a0the well-regarded image of Akobo\u00a0west\u2019\u00a0traditional\u00a0authority, \u00a0”\u00a0he added.
According to him, the purported video was taken\u00a0in\u00a0January 28, 2023 by anti-peace elements who intended to manipulate\u00a0innocent chiefs who have nothing to do with politics and political matters.
Mr. Tot called on the public to remain calm and disregard what he termed\u00a0as \u2018defamation\u2019,\u00a0adding that traditional authority is a non-partisan body that\u00a0serves\u00a0people equally without\u00a0discrimination.
\u201cCounty authority\u00a0would like to inform the public and particularly, people of Akobo to remain\u00a0calms\u00a0and disregard this mere defamation video as we all know\u00a0that,\u00a0traditional authority is\u00a0none\u00a0partisan\u00a0body,\u201d\u00a0Akobo commissioner clarified.
He added that chiefs are learned people and they are well aware of their\u00a0job\u00a0descriptions that require them to be neutral.
Akobo\u00a0authority cited\u00a0that people should not rely on social media to feed them with fake information, advising the public to only rely on authorized officials as this official\u00a0the like of this statement.
\u201cAkobo\u00a0west\u00a0authorities have\u00a0provided\u00a0an\u00a0alibi press statement\u00a0in\u00a0video camera disregarded the alleged fake\u00a0declaration,”\u00a0Tot noted.
