{"id":13904,"date":"2023-05-20T11:12:31","date_gmt":"2023-05-20T11:12:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=13904"},"modified":"2023-05-20T17:11:36","modified_gmt":"2023-05-20T17:11:36","slug":"govt-urged-to-be-neutral-in-sudans-unrest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2023\/05\/20\/govt-urged-to-be-neutral-in-sudans-unrest\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t urged to be neutral in Sudan&#8217;s unrest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Ephraim Modi Duku Sokiri<\/p>\n<p><strong>South\u00a0Sudan\u00a0activist has urged the government never to take sides while finding a solution to resolve Sudan conflict.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>As a proxy to the Inter-governmental Authority on Development (IGAD),\u00a0South Sudan President Salva Kiir is to spearhead the parleys between the two combatant rivalries in the Republic of Sudan along with the\u00a0governments\u00a0of Kenya and Djibouti.<\/p>\n<p>The Executive Director of Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO), Edmund Yakani, emphasized on impartiality in conveying the binary moralities in Sudan&#8217;s political disputes to arrive at a peace deal.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Juba needs\u00a0to\u00a0be neutral\u00a0towards\u00a0the warring parties in\u00a0Sudan.\u00a0Juba\u00a0needs not\u00a0to take side with one of the warring parties as a mediator,\u201d the activist urged.<\/p>\n<p>Yakani underscored that they had seen the government of\u00a0Sudan\u00a0demonstrating that responsibility of impartiality when \u201cwe were in\u00a0crisis in South\u00a0Sudan,\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u00a0feel that the government of South Sudan\u00a0does\u00a0not oppose the Sudan government and why are they embracing all the warring parties in South Sudan by meeting them in order to find a solution to their crisis in\u00a0nonviolent\u00a0way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>He challenged the South Sudan leaders to adapt to\u00a0Sudan&#8217;s\u00a0efforts that were wielded to triumph of the revitalized peace deal in 2018 for South Sudan in Khartoum.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Similar\u00a0reasonability, Sudan demonstrated in finding political solutions in our crisis through revitalization of the agreement, is the same responsibility South Sudan should display to the warring parties in\u00a0Sudan,&#8221;\u00a0said Yakani.<\/p>\n<p>CEPO\u2019s executive director questioned the involvement of\u00a0South Sudan in allowing special alignments of the Rapid Support Forces\u00a0(RSF)&#8217;s\u00a0representatives to\u00a0hold\u00a0a presser in Juba; he called for inclusivity of all the warring parties.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Why should the government of South Sudan have a link or a dialogue or have greater space for representatives of Hemedti (leader of the RSF) to come to Juba and hold a press conference? It is unacceptable,\u201d he argued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo,\u00a0with due respect and honor, South Sudan should take the responsibility of reaching out to all the warring parties in Sudan and\u00a0bringing\u00a0them to a mediation table as assigned by\u00a0IGAD,\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He reiterated the need to form a distinctive committee comprised of the South Sudan government to partner with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in spawning accord transversely to persuade foreign\u00a0interests\u00a0in finding\u00a0a\u00a0solution.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;There\u00a0is a need to appoint a special envoy of South Sudan to\u00a0Sudan&#8217;s\u00a0crisis, so that the special envoy will work with the ministry of foreign affairs to generate consensus across the globe within the constituency of IGAD, AU, Arab League and the West to have interest in\u00a0Sudan&#8217;s crisis,\u201d Yakani recapped.<\/p>\n<p>He however commended the government of South Sudan\u00a0in\u00a0arriving to\u00a0meet\u00a0with delegates from Sudan to find unison to their variances.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We\u00a0have seen positive development from the efforts of South Sudan where we are witnessing Sudanese warring parties sending special envoys to South Sudan to meet President Salva Kiir\u00a0Mayardit\u00a0and express their readiness to take over the peace\u00a0mediation,\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>Activist Yakani underlined the need for the warring parties in Sudan to adhere to the ceasefire agreement that they reached\u00a0in Jeddah&#8230;saying there\u00a0is a need to respect\u00a0ceasefire, respect\u00a0protection of civilians and stop the military approach to resolving their political\u00a0crisis.<\/p>\n<p>Yakani slanted\u00a0Sudan&#8217;s\u00a0key principals on the threats of\u00a0navy\u00a0as it smashes more on the lives of innocent civilians and damages\u00a0infrastructure\u00a0and properties.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The\u00a0military approach as we see today is leading to\u00a0incidence of occurrence of rape of women, or use of rape as a weapon of war, commitment of human rights atrocities which one day may amount to a crime, destruction of public and individual property, and loss of lives of innocent citizens in various towns of\u00a0Sudan,\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>He also appealed to\u00a0IGAD&#8217;s\u00a0leadership to be proactive in coordinating to stop the political crisis in Sudan.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Ephraim Modi Duku Sokiri South\u00a0Sudan\u00a0activist has urged the government never to take sides while finding a solution to resolve Sudan conflict.
