Senior government officials from South Sudan and Uganda on Friday, reached a consensus to jointly work together to end violent clashes between communities at the border.<\/strong><\/p>\n Early this month,\u00a0violence erupted between\u00a0Kajo-Keji residents of South Sudan and\u00a0Yumbe district of\u00a0Ugandan, after an encroachment into South Sudan territory. One civilian was killed while others sustained injuries in the incident.<\/p>\n A team led by Central Equatoria State\u00a0(CES) governor, Emmanuel Adil Anthony\u00a0reached on the\u00a0ground to foster relations between the two\u00a0border communities.<\/p>\n The team comprised of the CES Security advisor, Mr.\u00a0Dayo\u00a0Angelo\u00a0Lodu,\u00a0State Minister of Cabinet Affairs, Hon.\u00a0Wayi Godwill\u00a0and Moyo Residents District Commissioner (RDC) Mr. Gore\u00a0Moffin.<\/p>\n The emergency\u00a0cross-border\u00a0security meeting between Central Equatoria State of South Sudan and\u00a0Moyo, Yumbe and Koboko districts was held on Friday 19th May in Moyo District.<\/p>\n CES Security\u00a0Advisor,\u00a0Dayo\u00a0Angelo\u00a0Lodu highlighted that the two sides\u00a0resolved on a system to monitor the return of\u00a0encroachers from the Ugandan -Yumbe and Moyo districts.<\/p>\n \u201cWe came\u00a0out to form a community to look into what happened on the ground to see whether these people have returned\u00a0to\u00a0their places, or they have to be resettled in\u00a0Uganda,\u201d\u00a0he said.<\/p>\n \u201cThis\u00a0community has been in existence for\u00a0a long time. We\u00a0need to bring them together and to make sure that the calm should come back among them because they are actually inter-married\u00a0each\u00a0other.”<\/p>\n Mr. Angelo also said that one of the core resolutions is that a joined security team has been formed from Uganda and South Sudan to carry out patrols along the borders to curb the insecurity situation.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u00a0have also made an agreement so that the security will do their\u00a0patrolling. Where\u00a0will the\u00a0UPDF\u00a0end and\u00a0will also SSPDF end\u00a0and\u00a0otherwise,\u00a0we also talked of identification of the landlords, both\u00a0sides\u00a0to sit down to make sure that such activities will not\u00a0continue,\u201d\u00a0he alluded.<\/p>\n He\u00a0said\u00a0the committee will submit their report after meeting to scrutinize\u00a0the assessment of the affected people,\u00a0and\u00a0for a community dialogue, including vesting the community leaders of both sides to toughen their affairs on easy control of the border.<\/p>\n \u201cAfter\u00a0their meeting, they will be able to render\u00a0report to\u00a0us. Then\u00a0we will be able to allow them or resettle these people whose houses are built\u00a0in\u00a0the\u00a0farms,\u00a0but those who have been brought,\u00a0have to be taken back to where they came\u00a0from,\u201d\u00a0said Angelo.<\/p>\n \u201cWe\u00a0also empowered the\u00a0LC1\u00a0and 3 and on the side of the Kajo-Keji (Head persons, the paramount and head chiefs) to strengthen their relationship and make sure that whoever wants to cross to South Sudan for farming must ensure that they follow the legal\u00a0procedures.\u201d<\/p>\n The two parties also agreed to open major roads linking Yumbe District to South\u00a0Sudan,\u00a0especially Yumbe via Kei, Kaya to\u00a0Lainya\u00a0County, Yumbe via Goboro and Fitinambya to Kajokeji County with\u00a0a\u00a0purpose\u00a0of promoting\u00a0their bilateral relationship.<\/p>\n The meeting also reiterated their respect for the sovereignty, territorial integrity and unity of border communities of both countries.<\/p>\n The parties also reached a grasp to boost the on-going efforts to integrate the East African region, strengthen its unity and promote peace, security and stability through the structural prevention of conflicts.<\/p>\n The parties also discussed\u00a0the safety and protection of the South Sudanese refugees hosted in the Republic of Uganda in partnership with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR).<\/p>\n Thereafter, the delegation of the two parties agreed to act in\u00a0spirit of nurturing peace, security and teamwork in the\u00a0cross-border\u00a0meeting and\u00a0signed it.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By Ephraim Modi Duku Sokiri Senior government officials from South Sudan and Uganda on Friday, reached a consensus to jointly work together to end violent clashes between communities at the border.
