Authorities in Jonglei State capital, Bor, have arrested four youth, suspected of involvement in Tuesday\u2019s attack on a World Food Programme (WFP) convoy.<\/p>\n
A large armed group on motorbikes, on Tuesday, looted five Lorries loaded with food supplies outside the WFP compound in Bor\u2019s Pakuau area.<\/p>\n
According to the United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), the food was to support the needy, in Twic East.<\/p>\n
\u201c\u2026Almost 7 metric tons of the food was looted in the attack. Following the incident WFP has paused movements out of Bor for the third time this year,\u201d OCHA statement read in part.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Jonglei state governor, Denay Jock Chagor condemned the attack, saying they responded by apprehending the four suspects who have since been transferred to Juba for investigations.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis incident is very unacceptable. As we speak right now, we have arrested four individuals and these four suspects have been taken to Juba,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The state governor vowed that his administration would arrest all those involved in the attack.<\/p>\n
Jonglei state deputy police commissioner, James Machok added that the police hunts to arrest other suspects still at large.<\/p>\n
Reports of violent attacks on humanitarian personnel and assets have been on the rise since the beginning of this year, with humanitarian access continuing to be adversely affected by violence.<\/p>\n
According to the United Nations, an estimated 9.4 million people in parts of the country are projected to be in need of humanitarian and protection assistance.<\/p>\n
