{"id":15254,"date":"2023-06-27T11:04:44","date_gmt":"2023-06-27T11:04:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=15254"},"modified":"2023-06-27T11:04:44","modified_gmt":"2023-06-27T11:04:44","slug":"sweden-invests-8-4-million-for-women-girls-in-south-sudan","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2023\/06\/27\/sweden-invests-8-4-million-for-women-girls-in-south-sudan\/","title":{"rendered":"Sweden invests $8.4 million for women, girls in South Sudan"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>UNFA<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Sweden announced its commitment of 90 million Swedish Krona ($8.4 million) to UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, to implement its fourth Country Programme on sexual and reproductive health and rights, in support of the Government and people of South Sudan.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>UNFPA Representative\u00a0Dr. Demola Olajide\u00a0acknowledged the support of the Swedish\u00a0Government towards the improvement of access to maternal and newborn care, family planning, and prevention and response to gender-based violence in South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis generous contribution from the Government and people of\u00a0Sweden continues to support the implementation of interventions to provide\u00a0integrated sexual and reproductive health services in the country, especially improving the well-being of women, girls and young people,\u201d\u00a0said Dr. Olajide.<\/p>\n<p>The funding\u00a0is aimed at helping strengthen reproductive health programmes\u00a0and responding to gender-based violence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur support aims to contribute to improvements in the health status of women of reproductive age, including\u00a0young people\u2019s ability to plan their lives through\u00a0access to\u00a0family planning\u00a0information and services, promote women\u2019s empowerment and gender equality, and prevent\u00a0harmful practices such as\u00a0child marriage,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Tomas Brundin,\u00a0Head of Embassy of Sweden Office in South Sudan.<\/p>\n<p>South Sudan\u00a0continues to experience multiple development challenges, necessitating a robust approach to prevention and response to GBV and other sexual and reproductive health needs.<\/p>\n<p>Sweden has been a key partner for UNFPA since 2013, providing support that\u00a0has significantly\u00a0impacted\u00a0UNFPA\u2019s\u00a0transformative agenda in South Sudan\u00a0to accelerate\u00a0reductions\u00a0in preventable maternal death, unmet need for family planning, gender-based violence and harmful practices such as child marriage.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>UNFA Sweden announced its commitment of 90 million Swedish Krona ($8.4 million) to UNFPA, the United Nations sexual and reproductive health agency, to implement its fourth Country Programme on sexual and reproductive health and rights, in support of the Government and people of South Sudan.
