Police have rescued a 32-year-old man who cut off his genitals in an attempt to commit suicide.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n The man, whom police identified as Gum Padual Machiek is a resident of Gabat Residential Area.<\/p>\n After cutting off his genitals, Mr. Gum also tried cutting his head off when he was rescued, last week.<\/p>\n The neck-injured victim is currently receiving treatment at Juba Teaching Hospital.<\/p>\n Deputy Police Spokesperson James Dak Karlo stated that criminal cases by isolated individuals are increasing due to a lack of law enforcement.<\/p>\n He mentions that poverty, trauma, forced marriages, divorce, and displacement are some of the factors attributed to the increase in suicide cases in the country.<\/p>\n \u201cSuicide is a big crime here in South Sudan, mostly when you are caught alive, you are supposed to account for your actions,\u201d Mr. Dak told this outlet.<\/p>\n But for the South Sudan\u2019s context, Dak said people do not report the cases forgetting that there can be a remedy when such symptoms appear in an earlier stage.<\/p>\n According to the latest WHO data published in 2020 Suicide Deaths in South Sudan reached 425 or 0.51% of total deaths.<\/p>\n The age-adjusted Death Rate is 6.69 per 100,000 population ranks South Sudan 120 in the world.<\/p>\n In other crime-related incidents, a civilian named Thomas Modi Duku, 51 was shot and injured on his leg at Lokiliri residential area by unidentified armed criminals.<\/p>\n During the shooting, the attackers abducted Mr. Duku\u2019s 7-year-old son, Jarfrino Thomas Modi, police said.<\/p>\n Another case was of an inmate \u2018Kareng Sarafino Bringi 54 years who was found dead inside Juba Main Prison.<\/p>\n The Police said they are yet to establish the actual cause of the death of Mr. Bringi.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By Charles K Mark Police have rescued a 32-year-old man who cut off his genitals in an attempt to commit suicide.
