A hippopotamus terrorizing resident of Aweil West County, Northern Bahr El Gazal state, was killed by authorities on Monday after devouring a man and attacking others.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n The incident began with reports of the hippo straying from its usual habitat and exhibiting aggressive behavior, venturing into populated areas and attacking individuals.<\/p>\n Following the tragic death of a young man who was reportedly “devoured” by the animal, local authorities launched a search and elimination operation.<\/p>\n Director of Police in Aweil West County, Philip Agany Thiep confirmed that the animal was located and eliminated on Monday.<\/p>\n “The hippo had been attacking people in the area, and as we are concerned with public safety, we had to take action when it displayed this aggressive behavior towards residents,” stated Agany.<\/p>\n He maintained that the operation, which began after several attacks, culminated in the hippo’s death on Monday.<\/p>\n The police director further expressed concerns about another hippo in the area, urging residents to remain cautious but avoid harming it unless it poses a direct threat.<\/p>\n “We understand the importance of preserving wildlife,” said Agany. “However, public safety remains our top priority.
