Norwegian government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering lasting peace in South Sudan, a country it considers a longstanding ally.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Norwegian Minister of Foreign Affairs Espen Barth Eide emphasized Norway’s dedication to collaborating with Kenya in overcoming the obstacles impeding the South Sudanese peace process.<\/p>\n “We are not going to fail the people of South Sudan, because you are here for the people,” Eide said while addressing participants of the Tumaini Initiative in Nairobi last Friday.<\/p>\n Eide reiterated Norway’s historical friendship with South Sudan and assured continued support in resolving the challenges obstructing the path to peace.<\/p>\n For his part, Ambassador Albino Mathem Abuong, the head of the South Sudanese government delegation to the Tumaini talks, expressed the government’s strong commitment to achieving sustainable peace.<\/p>\n “The presence of the government delegation in Nairobi signals a serious intent to secure lasting peace for South Sudan,” Abuong said.<\/p>\n Cirino Hiteng Ofuho, representing the holdout opposition group, also conveyed optimism about the Tumaini Initiative’s potential to resolve the ongoing conflicts and prioritize the welfare of the South Sudanese people.<\/p>\n The Nairobi peace talks commenced early this month intending to address the root cause of conflict and find a solution for lasting peace in the country ahead of the December election.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By Charles K Mark Norwegian government has reaffirmed its commitment to fostering lasting peace in South Sudan, a country it considers a longstanding ally.
