Workers around the country will be breaking for yet another lengthy Eid al-Adha holiday as the Ministry of Labour declared three days for the festival.<\/p>\n
According to a circular issued by the Ministry of Labour on June 12th, 2024, the Eid al-Adha holiday will commence on Sunday, June 16th, and last until Tuesday, June 18th.<\/p>\n
The circular further states that normal work activities will resume on Wednesday, June 19th.<\/p>\n
Eid al-Adha is one of the most significant festivals in the Muslim calendar, commemorating the Prophet Ibrahim’s (Abraham’s) willingness to sacrifice his son when commanded by God.<\/p>\n
The holiday comes just two months after the Christian Easter holidays and the International Labour Day holiday in May.<\/p>\n
South Sudan, which gained independence from Sudan, has remained a secular country that respects religious beliefs and values, as enshrined in its transitional constitution.<\/p>\n
The Constitution prohibits religious discrimination and calls for the equal treatment of all faiths.<\/p>\n
