Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has announced that it will launch a Peace Campaign from July 1st to 9th<\/sup>, 2024.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n The week-long initiative carries the theme “Inclusively We Stand for Trust and Confidence for the South Sudan We Want.”<\/p>\n According to CEPO Executive Director, Edmund Yakani, the campaign aims to remind South Sudanese of the day when over 90% of citizens voted for a peaceful South Sudan.<\/p>\n “Wherever you are, commemorate with us as South Sudanese,” Yakani urged citizens.<\/p>\n “A day of our independence, the day we decided as South Sudanese by walking to the ballot box in a nonviolent and peaceful way with the power of the vote and voted for independence of South Sudan from Sudan.”<\/p>\n Yakani further noted the campaign is an expression of appreciation for the country’s leadership taking the bold decision to commit to the “Tumaini Initiative,” led by Kenyan President William Ruto and mediated by former Kenyan army chief Lazarus Sumbeiywo.<\/p>\n He implored the current delegates in the Nairobi peace talks to continue negotiations for lasting peace in South Sudan.<\/p>\n “We are aware some political elite have committed themselves to make sure peace is realized in South Sudan,” Yakani said.<\/p>\n “As citizens, we have a civic responsibility to stand up and demand in a peaceful and nonviolent way for our political leaders to commit themselves to a genuine and successful political transition of the situation of our country from violent to peace.”<\/p>\n Mr. Yakani is currently taking part in the Nairobi Talks known as Tumaini Initiative presenting the civil society.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By Kei Emmanuel Duku Community Empowerment for Progress Organization (CEPO) has announced that it will launch a Peace Campaign from July 1st to 9th, 2024.
