Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Justice Ruben Madol has tabled before the national parliament Four critical convention bills for further scrutiny by the lawmakers.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n Among the treaties are; the Anti-money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Act, 2012 amendment bill, 2024, the United Nations Convention Against Transnational Organized Crimes and the Protocols.<\/p>\n Others are the United Nations Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances 1988 as well as the International Convention for Suppression of the Financing Terrorism 1999.<\/p>\n \u201cRt Hon. Speaker! I hereby respectfully submit the Anti-money Laundering and Counter-Terrorist Financing Act, 2012 amendment bill, 2024 to you after its approval by the council of ministries… for deliberation and enactment,\u201d said Madol.<\/p>\n He said once ratified, South Sudan would adopt a serious crime and upped controlling measures and merge with it domestic laws such as the Penal Code, Penal Procedure Act and Anti-corruption Act among others.<\/p>\n On the UN Convention against Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic, Madol said South Sudan would be able to eradicate plants containing Narcotic and Psychotropic substances.<\/p>\n He added that the amended would require amendment of local laws to correspond with this convention as well as enable the country to strengthen a fight against illicit drugs.<\/p>\n After Madol’s presentation, House Speaker Juma Nunu Kumba referred all four treaties to relevant specialized committees, including the Foreign Affairs, National Security and Public Order, Legislation and Justice, and Finance Committees.<\/p>\n Nunu directed the committees to review the treaties and report back to the parliament within fourteen days.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By William Madouk Minister of Justice and Constitutional Affairs, Justice Ruben Madol has tabled before the national parliament Four critical convention bills for further scrutiny by the lawmakers.
