Here I am, the beggar child<\/p>\n

See my eyes with hunger wild<\/p>\n

See me in my desperate plight<\/p>\n

See me with no strength to fight<\/p>\n

Here I am, the broken soul<\/p>\n

With little chance of being made whole<\/p>\n

My spirit long since crushed beneath<\/p>\n

The passing of indifferent feet.<\/p>\n

Here I am, the beggar child<\/p>\n

Compared to mine your plight is mild<\/p>\n

Compared to me, you live like kings<\/p>\n

To me, the least have everything<\/p>\n

What will you do? Some pence, perhaps?<\/p>\n

A dollar, tossed into my lap?<\/p>\n

Then you leave to forget quickly<\/p>\n

This young soul, caged in poverty<\/p>\n

Here I am, the beggar child<\/p>\n

To most, I am somehow defiled<\/p>\n

Few have I seen who really care<\/p>\n

How I and others like me fare.<\/p>\n

You see me, yet you do not care!<\/p>\n

You pass me with your nose in the air<\/p>\n

Crimeless, yet in your eyes defiled;<\/p>\n

Here I am, the beggar child.<\/p>\n
