{"id":30820,"date":"2024-11-14T08:01:22","date_gmt":"2024-11-14T06:01:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=30820"},"modified":"2024-11-14T08:02:11","modified_gmt":"2024-11-14T06:02:11","slug":"vp-igga-regrets-delayed-budget","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2024\/11\/14\/vp-igga-regrets-delayed-budget\/","title":{"rendered":"VP Igga regrets delayed budget"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By William Madouk<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>For years, South Sudan has lagged behind other East African member states in passing the Fiscal year budget, a status Vice President and Chair of the Economic Cluster, Dr. James Wani, said must change to align with its peers.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking at the fourth high-level forum summit on fiscal devolution and revenue management, Dr. Wani expressed concern over the country&#8217;s persistent delays in budget approval.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulation to parliament, they were able to pass our budget yesterday [Monday] congratulation Rt deputy speaker of the Council of States and all members of parliament,\u201d Igga said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think that was great; By the way, next time, let us not be behind time because even the East Africa community is now very disgusted with us,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>VP Igga noted that EAC peer nations had their budget passed in June to begin operating their new financial year in July, however, South Sudan is six months late which is \u2018shameful.\u2019<\/p>\n<p>The vice president also urged the cabinet and parliament to improve the next national budget in time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet us change by starting earlier and with a leading speed, it is not good to be lagging behind all the time, they [EAC] would say what is wrong with South Sudan all the time their budget is late,\u201d he stressed.<\/p>\n<p>He noted late payment of salaries saying sometimes civil servants spend about three months without salaries attributing it to the late transfer of money from income-generating institutions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAll the income-generating units, let us not wait for the date 30 to send our proceeds to the ministry of finance through the bank because date 30 people are supposed to be paid,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet the custom send money starting from date 20, let it reach finance so that finance does papers quickly, and then it is paid at the end of the month \u2013 not three or six months,\u201d the VP added.<\/p>\n<p>The recently passed South Sudan budget comes months after EAC member states passed their budgets for the next financial year.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, the South Sudan transitional parliament passed the SSP 4.2 trillion budget for fiscal year 2024\/25.<br \/>\nKenya, Tanzania, Uganda, and other member states of the East African Community (EAC) passed their respective 2024\/25 budgets Four months ago.<\/p>\n<p>In June this year, a member of parliament representing South Sudan in the East Africa Legislative Assembly expressed concerns over the delayed submission of the fiscal year 2024\/2025 budget in his country.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By William Madouk For years, South Sudan has lagged behind other East African member states in passing the Fiscal year budget, a status Vice President and Chair of the Economic Cluster, Dr. James Wani, said must change to align with its peers.
