{"id":31063,"date":"2024-11-21T12:25:43","date_gmt":"2024-11-21T10:25:43","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=31063"},"modified":"2024-11-21T12:26:11","modified_gmt":"2024-11-21T10:26:11","slug":"akobo-residents-protest-lack-of-basic-services","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2024\/11\/21\/akobo-residents-protest-lack-of-basic-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Akobo residents protest lack of basic services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Deng Ghai Deng<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Dozens of residents in Akobo County, Jonglei State, took to the streets on Wednesday to protest against the severe lack of basic services such as healthcare, education, clean drinking water, and road facilities.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The protesters expressed frustration, stating that the people of Akobo County are suffering and are urging both the state and national governments to take immediate action to address the critical needs.<\/p>\n<p>A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, shared the struggles facing the community, stating, \u201csince the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) left Akobo Hospital in June 2024, the people have been left vulnerable, exposed to disease and hunger.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe citizens of this County have endured enough,\u201d the protestor said. \u201cWe are sending our voice to the government to rescue us from this suffering.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Akobo, one of the 79 counties in South Sudan, has long been overlooked when it comes to essential services.<br \/>\nProtesters emphasized that despite being a significant administrative region, the county has yet to receive the necessary services that are vital for survival.<\/p>\n<p>In response, Lual Monyluak, the Jonglei State Minister of Health, acknowledged the protests and reassured residents that the government is aware of their plight.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are aware of the difficult conditions the people of Akobo are facing. This situation is not unique to Akobo, and we are working hard with our partners to bring relief.
