{"id":32559,"date":"2025-01-16T12:10:57","date_gmt":"2025-01-16T10:10:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=32559"},"modified":"2025-01-16T12:10:57","modified_gmt":"2025-01-16T10:10:57","slug":"aweil-residents-complain-of-poor-burial-practices-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/01\/16\/aweil-residents-complain-of-poor-burial-practices-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Aweil residents complain of poor burial practices"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Hou Akot Hou<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Residents of Nyalath Payam in Aweil Center County, Northern Bahr El Ghazal State, are voicing concerns about the inadequate burial practices at the cemetery designated by the state government on the outskirts of the Town.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Locals reported to this outlet on Tuesday that people from Aweil Town are hurriedly burying corpses in shallow graves, leading to frequent exposure of remains.<\/p>\n<p>Garang Atem, a resident of the area, expressed alarm at discovering decomposing bodies emerging from their graves, which creates a filthy odor and poses a health risk to nearby residents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople come here with dead bodies and perform improper burials. This generates a terrible smell for those of us living around the cemetery. Some arrive with unidentified individuals, dig shallow graves, and simply dump them before leaving,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>Atem also questioned the lack of infrastructure, saying, \u201cwe expected a proper fence made of barbed wire to be erected, but nothing has been done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kuol Kuol, another resident, appealed to the authorities to station police at the site to prevent further random and improper burials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be beneficial if police personnel were assigned to the area. This is an urgent need,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The commissioner of Aweil Center County, Peter Natale, acknowledged the complaints, admitting that improper burials are occurring in the cemetery designated for public use.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is true that the people of Nyalath are suffering from inadequate burial practices, which result in unpleasant odors as corpses decompose.
