Teachers in Jonglei State have issued a 72-hour ultimatum, threatening to strike if they are not paid three months’ salary arrears.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n The Jonglei State Teachers\u2019 Union (JSTU) issued a letter this week, highlighting the severe financial hardship faced by teachers and their families due to the delayed payments.<\/p>\n The JSTU demands that the National Ministry of Finance and Planning release the salaries for December 2023, January, and February 2024. They claim that other civil servants in the state have already received these payments.<\/p>\n \u2018\u2019It has come to JSTU’s knowledge and everyone’s attention that teachers have not been paid for the months of December 2023, and January and February 2024, while other institutions have already received their salary payment leave alone eleven months equivalent to a year,\u2019\u2019 partly read the statement.<\/p>\n The teachers have notified the JSTU that they will boycott classes when schools reopen on February 3, 2025, if their demands are not met.<\/p>\n The Teachers\u2019 Union has appealed to the National Ministry of Finance and Planning to release the funds, stressing timely payment to ensure quality education.<\/p>\n \u2018\u2019 it\u2019s crucial that Teachers are paid on timely manner to ensure that they can fulfil their duties and provide excellent and quality education for their learners,\u2019\u2019 it added.<\/p>\n South Sudan civil servants have gone for 12 months without salary.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" By Peter Kuol Kuch Teachers in Jonglei State have issued a 72-hour ultimatum, threatening to strike if they are not paid three months’ salary arrears.
