{"id":33170,"date":"2025-02-07T12:55:44","date_gmt":"2025-02-07T10:55:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=33170"},"modified":"2025-02-07T12:55:44","modified_gmt":"2025-02-07T10:55:44","slug":"minister-urges-development-of-strong-institutions-human-capital","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/02\/07\/minister-urges-development-of-strong-institutions-human-capital\/","title":{"rendered":"Minister urges development of strong institutions, human capital"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By William Madouk<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Finance Minister Dr. Marial Dongrin Ater has stressed the need to prioritize institutional strengthening and human capital development to achieve sustainable development in South Sudan.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Speaking during a 2025 UNDP country programme annual review meeting Dr. Dongrin underscored that collaboration is important to build robust institutions and invest in a resilient workforce.<\/p>\n<p>He stated that a sustainable development model should be created, one that reflects the aspirations of the South Sudanese people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHowever, the way forward must increasingly focus on empowering our institutions to operate effectively over the long term,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe time has come to harness external expertise, not as a substitute for local leadership, but as a catalyst for building robust, homegrown systems capable of sustaining development, even in the face of shifting donor priorities,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister noted that robust institutions and resilient human capital are a cornerstone of sure progress.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cStrengthening our institutions, from modernising our administrative system to investing in human capital, is not merely a strategic necessity. It is a cornerstone of our sustainable development agenda,\u201d he echoed.<\/p>\n<p>Dongrin, who was the Gust of Honor cited that empowering people could reduce vulnerability to external funding fluctuations and ensure progress remains positive and independent.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLet us embrace this challenge with optimism and determination. Our collective effort is the key to unlocking a future in which every South Indian citizen can live with dignity, security and hope,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n<p>He called on development partners, local stakeholders and public servants to join in renewed commitment to build a country, not only \u2018responsive to today&#8217;s challenges\u2019 but also \u2018prepared for the uncertainties of tomorrow.\u2019<br \/>\n\u201cI thank you and ask that we commit to collectively work toward paving the way for a brighter future for our country,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the UNDP resident representative, Dr. Mohamed Abachir stated that \u201cthe annual review is an important moment in our journey towards supporting sustainable and inclusive development in South Sudan.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs we jointly assess our progress to reflect on the challenges and identify key strategic interventions required to progressively achieve the sustainable development goals for the benefit of the people of this beautiful country,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He cited in line with the Sustainable Development Goals, SDGs and UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Report for South Sudan, the UNDP country program document CPD serves as the primary accountability framework and roadmap ensuring that the efforts of UNDP are effectively aligned with the priorities of the government.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By William Madouk Finance Minister Dr. Marial Dongrin Ater has stressed the need to prioritize institutional strengthening and human capital development to achieve sustainable development in South Sudan.
