The meeting took place at the\nministry\u2019s headquarters, on 21<sup>st<\/sup> April 2020.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cSo far mining has not taken off.\nThe minerals are still on the ground, and we would like to make sure that we\nhave enough data so that investors can come and look as to what they can take\non in this country, and how we can also benefit from these operations\u201d the\nminister asserted. He said the plans of the ministry can be achieved with some\nsupport, and therefore sought for that support in regard to mining in the\ncountry. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, the European\nUnion Ambassador in South Sudan, Sinead Waish, says the EU would like to see\nSouth Sudan more engaged in the private sector, including EU companies. However,\nshe reiterated that the EU provides its support based on accountability and\ntransparence, as stipulated in the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of\nthe Conflict in South Sudan, Chapter IV. She urged the new government to\nimplement the chapter as was signed in 2018. \u201cWe as EU are looking at Chapter\nIV. There are lots of good reforms mentioned in Chapter IV, and we really urge\nthe R-TGONU to follow up and implement them. Transparence and accountability\nagenda is very important for the support that EU can provide and also for EU\ncompanies\u201d the diplomat emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There have been alleged reports\nof illegal mining in South Sudan, involving indigenous people, and also some\nprominent South Sudanese leaders, where some of the minerals are located, such\nas Kapoeta.
