{"id":34190,"date":"2025-03-21T10:57:16","date_gmt":"2025-03-21T08:57:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=34190"},"modified":"2025-03-21T10:57:16","modified_gmt":"2025-03-21T08:57:16","slug":"peace-monitors-call-for-restraint","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/21\/peace-monitors-call-for-restraint\/","title":{"rendered":"Peace Monitors call for restraint"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Yiep Joseph<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Ceasefire &amp; Transitional Security Arrangements Monitoring &amp; Verification Mechanism (CTSAMVM), the body tasked with monitoring the 2018 revitalized peace agreement warns that escalating tensions threaten the fragile peace.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>During the 52nd CTSAMVM Board Meeting, Chairperson Maj Gen Yitayal Gelaw Bitew called upon all signatory parties to exercise \u2018the highest level of restraint\u2019 and de-escalate the current volatile situation.<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted recent incidents in Nasir, including clashes between government forces and the White Army, a series of arrests targeting high-ranking government officials, and the involvement of foreign forces and bombardments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese activities have caused worry among many stakeholders of the R-ARCSS,\u201d Gelaw said.<\/p>\n<p>He appealed to the parties to the peace agreement to double efforts in control the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCTSAMVM urges the signatory parties involved (in conflict) to exercise the highest level of restraint during this volatile period,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOn the Status of the Ceasefire I address you, the Board members, with deep concerns about the current threat to the ceasefire agreement,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>He noted that the current situation remains critical and there is a need for the parties to develop trust and ensure that it is controlled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe current reporting period is marked by a tense and volatile situation\u2026.. Most critical is the situation in Upper Nile State, with several reports of mobilization of forces and alleged aerial bombardments,\u201d he said<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese clashes significantly affect the implementation of the already fragile ceasefire and cause immense suffering to the civilian population\u201d he added<\/p>\n<p>The CTSAMVM chairperson urged the parties to cease violence and focus on avenues of dialogue that can normalize the situation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCTSAMVM strongly urges the signatory parties to step away from the path of violence, respect the R-ARCSS, and seek the path to peace for all across the breadth of South Sudan.
