{"id":34241,"date":"2025-03-25T10:09:14","date_gmt":"2025-03-25T08:09:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=34241"},"modified":"2025-03-25T10:09:38","modified_gmt":"2025-03-25T08:09:38","slug":"yambio-arrests-15-suspects","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/03\/25\/yambio-arrests-15-suspects\/","title":{"rendered":"Yambio arrests 15 suspects"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Jackson Gaaniko<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Security forces in Western Equatoria State have restored calm in Yambio after arresting 15 suspected criminals were arrested.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The suspects who were paraded in public on Monday, after arrest during security operation, are accused of looting, arson and destruction of property.<\/p>\n<p>According to police reports, nine suspects were arrested on Saturday, while six others were apprehended on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Police said the suspects are currently in custody at Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Yambio as investigations continue.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking during the public parade, Acting Police Commissioner, Samuel Tet confirmed that the arrests were part of a broader effort to curb criminal activities in the state capital.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur forces worked tirelessly to track down and arrest these individuals. We urge the community to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities,\u201d Tet stated.<\/p>\n<p>He further revealed that some suspects were pursued into Nzara County, where additional arrests were made.<br \/>\n\u201cA few were caught while riding motorbikes along the roads. Our officers acted swiftly to apprehend them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Western Equatoria state Minister of Local Government and Law Enforcement, Severino Morris condemned the involvement of youth in criminal activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are not outsiders. They are our own youth from Western Equatoria. It is unfortunate that instead of engaging in meaningful work, they choose crime,\u201d he lamented.<\/p>\n<p>Yambio County Commissioner, Mbiko Barakati described the incidents as destructive and called for strict legal action.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis kind of lawlessness must end. The government must ensure they are prosecuted and face the full force of the law,\u201d he emphasized.<\/p>\n<p>He also urged the judiciary to impose severe penalties, including the death sentence for those responsible for serious offences.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the arrested individuals were found in possession of multiple identification documents, raising suspicions about their affiliations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese suspects claim to belong to different security forces, including SSPDF, CID, and National Security. Some carry multiple ID cards, which is highly suspicious,\u201d Commissioner Barakati noted.<\/p>\n<p>Acting governor of Western Equatoria state, Daniel Badagbu, instructed security forces to intensify investigations and identify any accomplices linked to the arrested suspects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese criminals have terrorized our people, but now, peace has returned. Residents should feel safe to move freely,\u201d he assured me.<\/p>\n<p>Badagbu also urged the judiciary to expedite the legal process.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe judges must act swiftly and deliver verdicts within 48 hours. If Yambio Prison cannot accommodate them, I will have them transferred to Juba,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n<p>The government has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining security in Yambio and surrounding areas.
