Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement-In Opposition (SPLM-IO) has suffered yet another blow in Lake State, with three key members from Yirol East County resigning and defecting to the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM).<\/p>\n
The resignations come at a time when the party is facing a crisis following the arrest its top leaders including First Vice President Dr. Riek Machar.<\/p>\n
Gabriel Makuei Maciek, Chudi Acuoth Majak, and Makuei Majiet Malou, including the acting chairperson of SPLM-IO in Yirol East County, submitted their resignation letters to the SPLM-IO state chairperson on March 2, 2025.<\/p>\n
In their letter, they cited several reasons for their departure, expressing a desire to join what they termed the \u201cgallant mother\u201d SPLM party.<\/p>\n
“With due respect and honor, allow us to express some major reasons for our resignation from SPLM-IO to the gallant mother SPLM party,\u201d partly read their statement.<\/p>\n
They claimed that the SPLM-IO is not supportive of its members and lacks connection with the local community.
\nThey further stated that the party is exploiting its members on the ground for their personal gain and mismanaging funds intended for the county.<\/p>\n
The trio also pointed out that both the Payam and Boma county-level staff are neither supervised nor recognized by the SPLM-IO’s state and national offices, which they identified as their third reason for resignation.<\/p>\n
They expressed their frustration over the lack of activities since joining the SPLM-IO, which has left them feeling idle.<\/p>\n
The three men confirmed their resignation and pledged their loyalty to the SPLM, stating that they believed this party would lead to a new era of democratic governance.<\/p>\n
“We hereby declare our resignation and our allegiance to the mother SPLM party, which is guiding the country towards genuine governance and democracy.”<\/p>\n
