{"id":34636,"date":"2025-04-09T13:20:05","date_gmt":"2025-04-09T11:20:05","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/onecitizendaily.com\/?p=34636"},"modified":"2025-04-09T13:20:05","modified_gmt":"2025-04-09T11:20:05","slug":"toposa-murle-communities-commit-to-reconciliation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/04\/09\/toposa-murle-communities-commit-to-reconciliation\/","title":{"rendered":"Toposa, Murle communities commit to reconciliation"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Staff Writer<\/p>\n<p><strong><em>Feuding communities in Greater Kapoeta have taken a significant step towards reconciliation by hosting a peace conference aimed at resolving conflicts between the Toposa of Eastern Equatoria and the Murle of the Greater Pibor Administrative Area.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Years of violence, fueled by cattle raids and child abductions, escalated recently when armed attackers invaded Kauto village, resulting in 31 deaths and the abduction of 24 children.<\/p>\n<p>In response, the Eastern Equatoria government, alongside the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) and Norwegian Church Aid, organized a forum to promote reconciliation and peaceful coexistence.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeace requires action, not just words. I pledge that we will continue to support your peace efforts for as long as is needed, with this interactive dialogue being an example of that,\u201d said Guy Griffin, Head of the peacekeeping mission\u2019s Field Office in Torit.<\/p>\n<p>Political leaders from both regions pledged to end tribal conflict, prioritizing reconciliation strategies in their discussions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not condone violence. We stand firmly for peace.
