Absence of Medical Workers at Maji Primary Health Care Unit\nPHCU in Magwi County of Eastern Equatoria State has forced the Watchman at the facility\nto do pharmaceutical work of prescribing drugs to patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In an exclusive telephone interview with Number One Citizen\nDaily Newspaper, Maji Boma Chief Washington DC Okwera said the Health Unit was\npreviously supported by Health Link South Sudan and Impact Health Organization\nor IHO but said the contracts for the workers came to an end leaving the\nfacility without health workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe had two people working in this facility and those two\nworkers were supported by Health Link and the other was contracted by another\nNGO in Nimule. That man was actually in Uganda before the lockdown and so after\nthe lockdown, he found it difficult to come back to work. We were then left\nwith the one of Health Link here but after sometimes, the contract got finished\nand now no body is at the facility\u201d Okwera decried.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Boma Chief said the Health Facility has now been\nwithout health personnel for a period of two months now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhen you are sick, you come to the watchman and he will\ngive you the medicines you want. If you want Panadol, you come with your own\ndesire for the medicines you want, if it is Panadol, Amodiaquine, or any drug\nand the watchman gives to the people. This is the problem facing the Maji\ncommunity\u201d The Boma Chief added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said it is only the watchman holding keys for the\nfacility and providing drugs for the patients.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Okwera however stated that during a meeting with the\ncommunity of Maji, the watchman was warned and asked to stop issuing medicines\nto the sick.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI called the meeting, people came and the watchman has\nbeen warned and asked to stop giving medicines to any patient\u201d implored the\nChief.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added that he had communicated earlier with the\nauthorities of the County Health Department and they promised to assign a\nmedical worker to the facility but wondered why the PHCU is still without\nhealth worker up to now.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The community leader said, he has told the watchman to keep\nthe facility closed and caleds on the sick to seek for medical attention at\nAbara Primary Health Care Unit PHCU or proceed to Magwi Hospital in case of\nserious illness.\n\nFor his part, the in\ncharge of Magwi County Health Department Okot Martin said the absence of Health\nWorkers in Maji Boma could be true.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
