Authorities in Rumbek, have taken an initiative to restrict alcohol consumption, in Lakes state capital city.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n According to the state city authority, consumption of alcohol escalates violence.<\/p>\n The state minister for culture, youth and sports, William Koji reports that alcohol is the root cause to series of violence and other illegal activities in the state.<\/p>\n Koji argues that they will do whatever it takes to manage alcoholism in Rumbek.<\/p>\n \u201cIf we ask ourselves what are the causes of all these negativities and violence? One of the causes is alcohol.\u201d Koji noted. \u201cAlcohol contributes almost 75% of the issues we have in this state,\u201d continued.<\/p>\n The minister maintained that if alcohol encourages violence and causes distraction, the law and culture cannot encourage such situations.<\/p>\n Koji urges community leaders and the community at large to condemn alcohol consumption.<\/p>\n He said that an arrest warrant will be issued out to those in possession of alcohol and also to those who misuse alcohol.<\/p>\n \u201cBased on the situation currently, based on the law and order, all the commissioners, the payam administrators, the chiefs, the youth leaders must not encourage this and someone found in possession of alcohol has to be arrested,\u201d the minister warned.<\/p>\n He added that even those who misbehave in public while drunk, also face arrest and must be taken to jail for some hours or some days.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Rumbek city Mayor, Akol Paul Manyang explained that the law is against excessive alcohol consumption, saying culprits must serve penalty.<\/p>\n \u201cLake State has set customary law, that whoever is caught drunk, and tried in the court of our law, pays a fine of 5000 SSP and three-months imprisonment.\u201d Akol said.<\/p>\n Akol also stressed that this law serves for both consumers and sellers.<\/p>\n \u201cThat law is based for those that are found drinking alcohol.
