The East African Community (EAC) officially commenced the process of\u00a0formulating its 7th Development Strategy for the period 2026\/27\u20132030\/31.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n It is anticipated that this initiative will chart the bloc\u2019s strategic direction over the next five (5) financial years.<\/p>\n The EAC uses five-year development strategies to facilitate the implementation of the EAC Vision 2050 in a systematic manner, which involves, among others, formulating several detailed strategies and a comprehensive implementation matrix.<\/p>\n The current EAC Development Strategy (2021\/22 – 2025\/26) ends in June 2026; thus, the need to formulate a successor Development Strategy covering the period 2026\/27 \u2013 2030\/31).<\/p>\n This new Strategy will guide regional integration and development efforts across the EAC Partner States, building on achievements and lessons learned from the implementation of the 6th EAC Development Strategy (2021\/22\u20132025\/26), and aligning with Vision 2050, AU Agenda 2063, and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).<\/p>\n The inaugural meeting of the Steering Committee to consider and validate the Draft Inception Report was held on 13th \u2013 14th May,\u00a02025\u00a0at the EAC Headquarters\u00a0in Arusha, Tanzania.<\/p>\n The meeting brought together technical experts from the Partner States constituting the Steering Committee as well as representatives of the EAC Organs and Institutions.<\/p>\n The Draft Inception Report, presented at the meeting, set out the analytical framework, methodology, roadmap and stakeholder engagement plan for the formulation of the 7th\u00a0EAC Development Strategy.<\/p>\n The Steering Committee\u2019s role is crucial in ensuring that the process remains consultative, evidence-based, and responsive to the priorities of all Partner States.<\/p>\n Speaking during the meeting, EAC Secretary General, Hon Veronica Nduva, expressed optimism about the formulation of the 7th Development Strategy describing it as\u00a0a critical step towards the realisation of the EAC\u2019s vision of\u00a0a prosperous and integrated East Africa.<\/p>\n \u201cBy engaging all stakeholders, we will create a roadmap that reflects our collective aspirations and addresses the challenges we face,\u201d\u00a0said Nduva.<\/p>\n \u201cThe new development strategy will pave the way for a more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable Community.
