One Citizen Network for Democracy (OCND) has urged local authorities, the state government, and national government to intervene to de-escalate conflict in Tonj East, Warrap State that has claimed lives of at least 62 people.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n Mboringba Elizabeth, the Program Assistant of OCND, called for urgent measures to prevent a surge in intercommunal conflict that could reach catastrophic levels in Tonj East.<\/p>\n She expressed the organization’s concern over the loss of lives due to attacks in the area.<\/p>\n \u201cUrgent intervention is needed from the national government to prevent further conflict and to bring communities together for the peaceful resolution of grievances,\u201d the statement read.<\/p>\n \u201cOne Citizen Network for Democracy (OCND) condemned the violence, stressing the urgent need for peacebuilding initiatives to address the root causes of these deadly disputes,\u201d the statement condemned.<\/p>\n The organization called for enhanced security and reconciliation efforts to prevent further bloodshed and promote peaceful coexistence among local communities.<\/p>\n Since December 2024, Tonj East has experienced a series of violent incidents, including cattle raiding and revenge attacks involving large numbers of armed youth from neighboring communities.<\/p>\n In March, more than 200 people are estimated to have died during the intercommunal conflict.<\/p>\n \u201cAction must be taken to prevent further loss of innocent lives and to restore peace and security within the community.
