A high-level delegation from the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) yesterday assured regional support for South Sudan peace.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n The IGAD delegation, led by Executive Secretary H.E. Dr. Workneh Gebeyehu, met with the Vice President, Dr. Benjamin Bol Mel, who is also the chairperson for the nation\u2019s economic cluster, to explore deeper cooperation between South Sudan and the regional bloc.<\/p>\n In a statement from the VP Mel\u2019s office, the two leaders discussed critical milestones in advancing the Revitalized Peace Agreement as an essential pathway to lasting peace, stability, and national unity.<\/p>\n Dr. Gebeyehu assured of IGAD\u2019s support, underlining that South Sudan\u2019s peace is not only vital to its citizens but also to the region.<\/p>\n The meeting was also attended by Hon. Amb. Monday Semaya Kumba, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.<\/p>\n The statement noted the Vice President welcomed IGAD\u2019s visit as an affirmation of their enduring commitment to the South Sudanese people.<\/p>\n He also acknowledged the organization as a trusted partner in shepherding the country through its most critical transitions.<\/p>\n The statement stated that both leaders shared a forward-looking vision rooted in synergy and emphasized the urgency of staying the course toward peace, institutional reform, and development.<\/p>\n \u201cThe government of H.E. President Salva Kiir Mayardit is actively securing the support needed to build a united and thriving nation. The path ahead is promising.
