Security situation in Yei remains calm, despite ongoing road ambushes and abductions by armed groups, the military has said.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n According to South Sudan People\u2019s Defence Forces (SSPDF) Commander for Yei and Morobo counties has assured the public that the<\/p>\n Recently a paramount chief was abducted by unknown gunmen, a move that caused fear and panic in the area.<\/p>\n Speaking during the 14th Independence Anniversary celebration in Yei, Brigadier General Joseph Garang said the area is generally peaceful, although there are challenges affecting movement of civilians and humanitarian workers.<\/p>\n “The security situation in the county is calm. Only road ambushes and abductions are affecting the movement of civilians and humanitarian workers, but we are working hard to ensure total peace in the area,” he said.<\/p>\n Meanwhile, Ale Satimon, Secretary of South Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM), commended the security forces in Yei for maintaining order and working closely with the civil population.<\/p>\n He also paid tribute to the SPLA soldiers, chiefs, and women who contributed to the liberation struggle.
