The President of the Republic of South Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, has urged the leaders to serve with integrity and humility for the greater good of the country.<\/p>\n

In his address to the nation on Martyrs Day commemoration yesterday, President Kiir said as the country reflects on Martyrs Day, leaders must renew commitment to the ideal for which the martyrs gave their lives: peace, unity, and development.<\/p>\n

\u201cMy fellow comrades, let us serve with integrity and humility. Our mandate is to work tirelessly for the welfare of all citizens, putting aside personal and political differences for the greater good of our country,\u201d Kiir said.<\/p>\n

President Kiir emphasized that it is a shared responsibility as citizens and leaders alike to protect and advance this principle.<\/p>\n

The head of state appealed to South Sudanese to support the government in order to achieve peace and development.<\/p>\n

He stated that though the war for liberation has ended, the journey towards lasting peace, stability, and development continues.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis new struggle calls for dedication, good governance, and collective efforts on this day of remembrance,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He also highlighted that people should honor the memory of the martyrs by building a South Sudan that reflects their region a nation of peace, justice, and opportunity for all.<\/p>\n

\u201cTo all South Sudanese, I urge you to embrace unity and subject division. The freedom you will enjoy is a precious gift and through great sacrifices, use it wisely to build a peaceful and prosperous nation,\u201d the head of state emphasized.<\/p>\n

President Salva Kiir reaffirmed his commitment toward ensuring South Sudan leaders come together and embark on peace and development.<\/p>\n

He also urged citizens to pay tribute to the founding leader, Dr. John Garang De Mabior, and to all the courageous civilian individuals who stood firm through years of struggles, giving their lives so that future generations might live in a free and sovereign nation.<\/p>\n

\u201cMay the souls of our martyrs \u2019rest in eternal peace, and may their sacrifice continue to inspire us all. May God bless the republic of South Sudan,\u201d Kiir stated.<\/p>\n

Martyr Day in South Sudan is observed on July 30. It is a public holiday and a Remembrance Day that commemorates the death anniversary of John Garang de Mabior, who is widely considered the most influential person in the history of South Sudan.<\/p>\n
