{"id":38422,"date":"2025-08-07T11:10:19","date_gmt":"2025-08-07T09:10:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=38422"},"modified":"2025-08-07T11:10:19","modified_gmt":"2025-08-07T09:10:19","slug":"icrcs-affirms-commitment-to-assess-kajo-kaji-humanitarian-crisis","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/07\/icrcs-affirms-commitment-to-assess-kajo-kaji-humanitarian-crisis\/","title":{"rendered":"ICRC\u2019s affirms commitment to assess Kajo-Kaji humanitarian crisis"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_38423\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38423\" style=\"width: 300px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-38423\" src=\"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/kajo-kajo-1-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/kajo-kajo-1-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/kajo-kajo-1-165x109.jpg 165w, https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/kajo-kajo-1.jpg 602w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38423\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Courtesy Photo<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong><em>By Lodu William Odiya<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has yesterday affirmed its plan\u00a0 to assess the humanitarian crisis Kajo-Keji county.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, the Central Equatoria State Governor, Rabi Mujung Emmanuel held an exclusive meeting with Florence Gillette, the Head of Delegation for the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC), at the State Secretariat on Tuesday in Juba.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe discussed two issues with the Governor: the current humanitarian needs in Kajo-Keji and the coordination required to respond effectively,\u201d said Gillette.<\/p>\n<p>According to the statement, the ICRC Florence Gillette described the meeting as productive, affirming the ICRC\u2019s commitment to joint assessments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe also discussed the handover of a major ICRC water scheme in Gumbo that supplies safe drinking water to over 100,000 people.\u201d The statement noted.<\/p>\n<p>The statement emphasized the discussion followed by the growing humanitarian crisis in Kajo-Keji County following the recent border tensions with Uganda.<\/p>\n<p>The statement further noted that, the meeting focused on mobilizing ICRC support in response to the displacement and urgent humanitarian needs resulting from last week\u2019s incident at the South Sudan\u2013Uganda border.<\/p>\n<p>The incident, involving Uganda People\u2019s Defense Forces (UPDF), led to the displacement of thousands of civilians in Kajo-Keji.<\/p>\n<p>The statement also empathized the Commissioner of Kajo-Keji County, noted that the crisis has affected 2,934 households, impacting a total population of 16,304 people.<\/p>\n<p>It further underlined immediate humanitarian needs include food, shelter, cooking utensils, and medical supplies as well as clean drinking water.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the statement also stated that Governor Mujung emphasized the urgent need to assist displaced populations and commended the ICRC\u2019s ongoing support to the people of Central Equatoria State.<\/p>\n<p>It also underscored Governor reiterated the State government\u2019s readiness to work hand-in-hand with humanitarian partners to address the crisis.<\/p>\n<p>The statement stressed that Hon. Rose Lisok, Chairperson of the State Relief and Rehabilitation Commission, described the situation in Kajo-Keji as dire.<\/p>\n<p>She appreciated ICRC\u2019s intervention and called for other partners to come on-board to handle the other needs ICRC is not handling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are facing a very difficult and alarming situation, especially affecting women, children, the elderly, and people with disabilities,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe appeal to other humanitarian organizations to intervene urgently so we can meet the basic needs of the displaced.\u201d She added<\/p>\n<p>Last week, Uganda had sent additional troops and tanks to its border with South Sudan following a deadly clash near a shared border that killed several soldiers and displaced thousands of civilians.<\/p>\n<p>The fighting erupted on Monday 28, July in South Sudan\u2019s Kajo-Keji County after Ugandan forces accused South Sudanese troops of crossing into Uganda\u2019s West Nile region and refusing to withdraw.<\/p>\n<p>The Bishop of Kajo Keji had made an appeal for humanitarian intervention, following surprise attacks.<\/p>\n<p>Kajo Keji has endured a challenging, conflict-filled past, but residents remain remarkably resilient.<\/p>\n<p>They dare hope for a brighter future, despite still finding themselves under sporadic attacks.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Lodu William Odiya The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has yesterday affirmed its plan\u00a0 to assess the humanitarian crisis Kajo-Keji county.
