{"id":38569,"date":"2025-08-12T09:42:14","date_gmt":"2025-08-12T07:42:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=38569"},"modified":"2025-08-12T09:42:14","modified_gmt":"2025-08-12T07:42:14","slug":"bishop-calls-on-leaders-to-end-violent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/08\/12\/bishop-calls-on-leaders-to-end-violent\/","title":{"rendered":"Bishop calls on leaders to end violent"},"content":{"rendered":"<figure id=\"attachment_38570\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-38570\" style=\"width: 230px\" class=\"wp-caption alignnone\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-38570\" src=\"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Bishop-230x300.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"230\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Bishop-230x300.jpg 230w, https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/08\/Bishop.jpg 601w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 230px) 100vw, 230px\" \/><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-38570\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bishop Alex Lodiong Sakor <em>Diocese of Yei\/courtesy photo<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p><strong><em>By James Innocent<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The faith-based leader in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State has called for an end to violence across the country.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Alex Lodiong Sakor of the Diocese of Yei has urged South Sudan\u2019s leaders to end ongoing conflicts.<\/p>\n<p>Lodiong made a call during a two-day meeting organized by Reconcile International on an initiative to consolidate security and peace through local peace structures in Yei.<\/p>\n<p>The participants include all the government authorities, local chiefs, and members of communities.<\/p>\n<p>Bishop Lodiong called on political leaders to reflect on the country\u2019s hard-won independence in 2011 and the milestones of the 2005 Comprehensive Peace Agreement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe, as religious leaders and citizens, are concerned about why conflict persists in South Sudan, particularly here in Yei, where it has caused tension among communities,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He expressed that war brings no benefit to the country and only deepens suffering among the citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLeaders should focus on dialogue and reconciliation instead of war and remember the achievements of past peace agreements.\u201d He said.<\/p>\n<p>The bishop appealed to government officials, political parties, civil society, citizens, and faith leaders to unite and place their trust in God to achieve lasting peace.<\/p>\n<p>Yei River County Commissioner Emmanuel Taban Seme echoed the bishop\u2019s call, urging residents to promote peace through dialogue.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPeople are tired of war since 2016,\u201d Taban said. \u201cWe must build hope and trust among ourselves rather than turn against one another.\u201d He said.<\/p>\n<p>Local elder Diko Alakai voiced similar concerns, warning that insecurity, tribalism, abductions, and killings have taken a toll on communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI urge religious leaders to bring communities together for dialogue and present these challenges directly to President Salva Kiir,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>James Wani Banza, Director of Peacebuilding in Yei River County, called on the government to provide financial support to religious leaders engaged in peace initiatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFunds should be used to facilitate dialogue with political parties instead of fueling conflict,\u201d Banza said.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By James Innocent The faith-based leader in Yei River County of Central Equatoria State has called for an end to violence across the country.
