{"id":40372,"date":"2025-10-13T10:27:27","date_gmt":"2025-10-13T08:27:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=40372"},"modified":"2025-10-13T10:27:27","modified_gmt":"2025-10-13T08:27:27","slug":"south-sudan-backs-water-security-climate-action","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/13\/south-sudan-backs-water-security-climate-action\/","title":{"rendered":"South Sudan backs water security, climate action"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Alan Clement<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>South Sudan has reaffirmed it&#8217;s commitment to advancing water security, promoting climate resilience, and enhancing regional cooperation as the country joins global experts at the 8th Cairo Water Week.<br \/>\nThis year\u2019s 5-day summit in Cairo, Egypt commenced on October 12, 2025 through October 16, 2025 under the theme \u201cInnovative Solutions for Climate Resilience and Water Sustainability.\u201d<br \/>\nAccording to a statement from the Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation, the National Minister, James Mawich Makuach, led a high-level delegation of senior officials from the Ministry to participate in the international forum on Saturday.<br \/>\n\u201cSouth Sudan\u2019s presence at Cairo Water Week 2025 shows our strong commitment to water sustainability, climate resilience, and global cooperation.\u201d the Ministry\u2019s press unit stated.<br \/>\nIn the statement, the Ministry emphasized that water resource management is a cornerstone of South Sudan\u2019s national development agenda, aligning with the country\u2019s strategic goals on climate adaptation, rural development, and public health.<br \/>\nThe statement further noted that at the Cairo summit, Minister Mawich will engage in high-level discussions on transboundary water governance, climate-smart infrastructure, and financing for water and sanitation projects.<br \/>\n\u201cWe\u2019re here to share experiences, learn, and build partnerships to deliver safe water and climate-resilient services,\u201d the Ministry stated in a statement.<br \/>\nThe Ministry\u2019s statement noted that South Sudan\u2019s attendance demonstrates the country\u2019s continued engagement in regional and international cooperation on water and sanitation, particularly within the framework of the Nile Basin.<br \/>\n\u201cWe remain committed to working closely with neighboring countries and global partners to ensure water sustainability and climate resilience for all,\u201d the statement added.<br \/>\nThe Cairo Water Week brings together ministers, policymakers, scientists, and development partners from across the world to explore innovative approaches to water management amid the growing impacts of climate change.<br \/>\nThe event also serves as a platform to translate global commitments such as those made during the UN 2023 Water Conference into actionable strategies for countries like South Sudan.<br \/>\nThe event serves as a key platform for South Sudan to strengthen its partnerships, share experiences, and mobilize technical and financial support toward achieving national and regional water security goals.<br \/>\nSouth Sudan\u2019s delegation was warmly received by Eng. Sameh Abdelrahman, Head of the Central Department in the Nile Water Sector, and Eng.
