{"id":40545,"date":"2025-10-17T11:11:14","date_gmt":"2025-10-17T09:11:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=40545"},"modified":"2025-10-17T11:11:14","modified_gmt":"2025-10-17T09:11:14","slug":"civil-society-call-on-youth-to-focus-on-productive-activities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/17\/civil-society-call-on-youth-to-focus-on-productive-activities\/","title":{"rendered":"Civil society call on Youth to focus on productive activities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Alan Clement<\/strong><\/em><br \/>\nCivil Society have cautioned the young people to prioritize clear, issue-driven advocacy over personalized or vague calls for action.<br \/>\nAccording to Civil Society activists, to meaningfully shape South Sudan\u2019s political and electoral landscape there is need for serious engagement.<br \/>\nNoel Kaiga Joseph, Executive Director of Space, a national civil society organization, said youth inaction around the 2024 elections reflected a broader failure to demand what is rightfully theirs.<br \/>\n\u201cWe lost the election in 2024 because we have not demanded for it,\u201d Joseph said.<br \/>\nHe stressed that youth activism must be anchored in rights and legal frameworks not personalities. He argued that issue-based demands lend legitimacy and increase the likelihood of influencing decision-makers.<br \/>\nCivil society organizations, he added, are instrumental in bridging the gap between youth and policymakers. \u201cThrough inclusive participation strategies and power mapping, CSOs help connect young people with the officials who can act on their concerns,\u201d he noted.<br \/>\nKaiga emphasized the urgent need for timely elections, urging youth to demanding things that are rightfully theirs.<br \/>\n\u201cYour problem is we need the election to be done. Don\u2019t ask even when. \u2018When\u2019 is not your answer. They will tell you after five years, after ten years. But say we need this one done\u201d he remarked.<br \/>\nCiting successful youth-led movements across the world, Kaiga pointed to the 2018 Gambian elections, where youth mobilization ensured the polls took place, and Nigeria\u2019s \u201cNot Too Young to Run\u201d constitutional amendment, which lowered age limits for political office.<br \/>\n\u201cYouth must be focused.
