{"id":40659,"date":"2025-10-23T11:06:47","date_gmt":"2025-10-23T09:06:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=40659"},"modified":"2025-10-23T11:06:47","modified_gmt":"2025-10-23T09:06:47","slug":"nhial-lost-his-parliamentary-seat-after-defection-says-splm","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/23\/nhial-lost-his-parliamentary-seat-after-defection-says-splm\/","title":{"rendered":"Nhial lost his parliamentary seat after defection, says SPLM"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>By Jacob Onuha Nelson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM) national secretariat has broken silence on the status of Nhial Deng Nhial in the party.<\/p>\n<p>Since Nhial&#8217;s defection and subsequent formation of the South Sudan Salvation Movement (SSSM),\u00a0the SPLM headquarters promise to respond.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing the media on Wednesday, Bol Makueng Yuol, the SPLM Secretary for Political Affairs, Mobilization, and Organization, revealed that after the defection, Nhial lost membership as well as seats related to the party.<\/p>\n<p>Makueng reiterated that the party\u2019s constitution clearly stated that any person who resigned lost the membership and other privileges.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, from the moment of his declaration, Nial Deng Nial ceased to be a member of both the SPLM and the Revitalized Transitional National Assembly. This is what the SPLM constitution says,\u201d Makueng said.<\/p>\n<p>He urged the members to remain calm, citing that Nhial\u2019s defection has no much impact on the party.<\/p>\n<p>Makueng expressed that Nhial voluntarily formed his own party and has the right to participate in the country&#8217;s politics.<\/p>\n<p>Recently Nhial Deng Nhial, a senior member of South Sudan\u2019s ruling party, quit SPLM and launched a new movement aimed at wresting control of the SPLM party from its current leadership, which he accused of betraying the country\u2019s founding ideals.<\/p>\n<p>In an 18-page declaration shared with the media, Nhial, a member of the Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM) Political Bureau, criticizes SPLM.<\/p>\n<p>The veteran politician announced the formation of the South Sudan Salvation Movement (SSSM), describing it as a \u201ctemporary vehicle\u201d to push for reforms within the SPLM.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe SSSM is not an end in itself. It is not intended to replace the SPLM,\u201d Nhial said. \u201cIt is conceived as a device to steer fundamental reforms within the SPLM and bring about its total renaissance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said the SSSM would operate under the United People\u2019s Alliance (UPA), an opposition coalition led by former SPLM secretary-general Pagan Amum, and would work with other groups to pressure the government.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0By Jacob Onuha Nelson The Sudan People\u2019s Liberation Movement (SPLM) national secretariat has broken silence on the status of Nhial Deng Nhial in the party.
