{"id":40799,"date":"2025-10-29T12:45:37","date_gmt":"2025-10-29T10:45:37","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=40799"},"modified":"2025-10-29T12:45:37","modified_gmt":"2025-10-29T10:45:37","slug":"government-economic-cluster-embarks-on-high-level-field-visit-to-aweil","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/10\/29\/government-economic-cluster-embarks-on-high-level-field-visit-to-aweil\/","title":{"rendered":"Government Economic Cluster Embarks on High-Level Field Visit to Aweil"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jacob Onuha Nelson<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Government of the Republic of South Sudan has launched a\u00a0high-level field visit to Aweil County in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Addressing the media on Tuesday at the Ministry of Agriculture in Juba, Abdelbagi Hussein Akol, the Minister of Agriculture and Food Security,\u00a0confirmed that the delegation would pay a high-level visit to\u00a0assess the progress of government<strong>&#8211;<\/strong>led agricultural production initiatives\u00a0in the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe visit,\u00a0led by the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security,\u00a0aims to assess the progress of the government-led agricultural production initiatives that are\u00a0<strong>central to <\/strong>South Sudan\u2019s strategy for economic recovery, food security, and self-sufficiency,\u201d Minister Hussein said.<\/p>\n<p>While in Aweil,\u00a0Minister Hussein stated that the delegation will first receive a briefing from the State Governor.\u00a0They will then inspect major agricultural infrastructure and production activities at the\u00a0Aweil scheme,\u00a0one of the government\u2019s flagship programs driving national food security and rural development.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPlanned inspection areas include the construction of\u00a026.7 km of feeder roads<strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0establishment of\u00a0water yard facilities,\u00a0cultivation of\u00a0four basins,\u00a0and construction of a\u00a0research and seed storage facility,\u00a0all implemented under the\u00a0Building Resilience for Food and Nutrition Security (BRAFON) project<strong>,<\/strong>\u00a0funded by the African Development Bank,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>The delegation is also scheduled to visit the newly established\u00a0Agro-Mechanical Service Center<strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0This center stations tractors,\u00a0harvesters,\u00a0and other mechanization equipment closer to the farming community to scale up agricultural production.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese centres will provide\u00a0vital repairs, maintenance, and service support\u00a0to ensure reliable access to mechanization tools that enhance productivity and reduce post-harvest losses,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The Minister also disclosed that the visit will monitor the implementation of the\u00a0Climate-Resilient Agriculture and Food Transformation (CRAFT) project\u00a0in Aweil\u2019s scheme,\u00a0another African Development Bank-funded initiative designed to boost agricultural productivity,\u00a0improve food security,\u00a0and build climate resilience.<\/p>\n<p>The Ministry will focus on value chains such as\u00a0sorghum, groundnut, and fisheries\u00a0to promote climate-smart agriculture technologies and strengthen research collaboration with national institutions,\u00a0including the University of Juba.\u00a0The Minister emphasized that\u00a0agriculture remains the heart of economic recovery efforts<strong>.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Government of South Sudan is urging the public to note the Ministry\u2019s commitment to transforming agriculture as the\u00a0backbone of the economy<strong>.<\/strong>\u00a0It calls upon citizens to engage in food production and improve food security situations through increased production,\u00a0mechanization,\u00a0and innovation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe aim to ensure every household becomes\u00a0food-secure\u00a0and that our nation reduces reliance on food imports,\u201d he assured.<\/p>\n<p>South Sudan&#8217;s agriculture has\u00a0massive, untapped potential\u00a0due to abundant land and water resources,\u00a0but this potential is severely hindered by conflict,\u00a0climate change,\u00a0poor infrastructure,\u00a0and a lack of quality inputs.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Jacob Onuha Nelson The Government of the Republic of South Sudan has launched a\u00a0high-level field visit to Aweil County in Northern Bahr el Ghazal State.
