South Sudan\u2019s Speaker of Parliament has revealed that the legislature has passed key laws required under the Revitalized Agreement on the Resolution of the Conflict in South Sudan (R-ARCSS).<\/p>\n

In a statement from the Speaker\u2019s office, the revelation was made following a high-level meeting between South Sudanese officials including Speaker Dr. Jemma Nunu Kumba and Endre Stiansen, the Norwegian Special Envoy to the Horn of Africa.<\/p>\n

\u201cParliament has fulfilled its mandate by enacting all the key laws stipulated in the peace agreement,\u201d the Speaker\u2019s office confirmed in a statement.<\/p>\n

The peace agreement\u2019s implementation was reviewed during the meeting where the Speaker emphasized that the Assembly will continue to deliberate on other important bills aimed at consolidating peace and supporting national stability.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe continue to deliberate on additional bills that will strengthen governance, accountability, and the rule of law,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

The legislative milestones include reforms in security, public finance, and electoral frameworks, which are considered foundational to the transitional period.<\/p>\n

The statement also emphasized the Assembly\u2019s commitment to supporting the peace process through robust law-making and oversight.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 Speaker\u2019s office noted that despite persistent challenges, the Government remains committed to dialogue as the only viable path to lasting peace and stability.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur commitment to peace remains steadfast. We believe that dialogue and inclusive political engagement are the only means through which lasting peace and stability can be achieved,\u201d the statement added.<\/p>\n

The meeting also underscored South Sudan\u2019s enduring partnership with Norway, a country recognized for its longstanding support to the people of South Sudan from the liberation struggle to the present peacebuilding phase.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
