{"id":41517,"date":"2025-11-27T14:59:25","date_gmt":"2025-11-27T12:59:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=41517"},"modified":"2025-11-27T15:02:38","modified_gmt":"2025-11-27T13:02:38","slug":"well-wishers-to-construct-memorial-school-in-a-name-of-late-william-amoi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/11\/27\/well-wishers-to-construct-memorial-school-in-a-name-of-late-william-amoi\/","title":{"rendered":"Well-wishers to construct memorial school in a name of late William Amoi"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong><em>By Hou Akot Hou<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leaders and former students taught by the late veteran teacher, Ustaz William Amoi, have pledged to honor him by constructing a school in his name.<\/p>\n<p>These promises were made following his burial in Ariath, Aweil North County.<\/p>\n<p>Ustaz Amoi, who died earlier this month at the age of 100, was widely celebrated for shaping generations of South Sudanese leaders through decades of service across Kuajok, Wau and El Fasher.<\/p>\n<p>Former national minister Dr. Dhieu Mathok, a family member, said the teacher\u2019s impact remains visible across the country.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMany people have been uplifted by William Amoi, including myself and even President Kiir,\u201d Dr. Mathok said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe left footprints in every community he taught, and we have agreed to build a school to honour him,\u201d continued Mathok.<\/p>\n<p>Mathok added that speakers at the funeral recalled Amoi\u2019s role during the liberation war, including helping recover abducted children.<\/p>\n<p>One former abductee; now an engineer also committed to supporting the construction of the memorial school.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUstaz Amoi did a lot, including rescuing children captured during the war,\u201d Mathok said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThose he helped, and those he taught, have pledged to join efforts to establish a school bearing his name.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He also described the late educator as a humble figure who valued service over political ambition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere was a time when Uncle William Amoi wanted to contest against the late Lual Diing Wol,\u201d Mathok recalled adding, \u201cHe later withdrew and even advised his nephew not to challenge Lual. Such humility is rare today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Amoi is survived by several accomplished children living both in South Sudan and abroad. Mathok said his values and integrity should inspire the next generation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe stands out among those who contributed deeply to nation-building.
