{"id":41748,"date":"2025-12-23T14:25:23","date_gmt":"2025-12-23T12:25:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=41748"},"modified":"2025-12-23T14:25:23","modified_gmt":"2025-12-23T12:25:23","slug":"two-killed-following-elopement-incident-in-warrap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2025\/12\/23\/two-killed-following-elopement-incident-in-warrap\/","title":{"rendered":"Two killed following elopement incident in Warrap"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Hou Akot Hou<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Police in Warrap State have confirmed that two people were killed and four suspects arrested following an elopement incident that turned violent in Tonj South County on Monday.<br \/>\nBrigadier Marko Mawien Madut, the police inspector in Tonj South, explained that the conflict began after a young man, identified as Malok Majok Maker, eloped with an 18-year-old girl.<br \/>\n\u201cWhat happened in the first place is that Malok Majok Maker eloped with an 18-year-old girl and ran away with her,\u201d Madut said.<br \/>\nHe explained that the girl\u2019s brother, Machar Kuoc Dhieu, retaliated by attacking the eloper\u2019s close friend, Kuel Kuel, whom he accused of knowing the couple\u2019s whereabouts.<br \/>\n\u201cHe killed Kuel Kuel, and the eloper together with the girl remain at large,\u201d Madut added.<br \/>\nMadut added that another death occurred during a police search for suspects who had armed themselves and fled into the bush.<br \/>\nSecurity forces exchanged fire with the group, resulting in one suspect being killed and four others apprehended.<br \/>\n\u201cWhen we sent forces to pursue them, they resisted after killing the accomplice of the man who ran away with the girl. In the exchange, one suspect was killed and four were arrested,\u201d Madut noted.<br \/>\nThe police inspector urged communities to resolve marriage disputes through lawful and peaceful means rather than resorting to elopement or violence.<br \/>\n\u201cIt is always paramount to use peaceful ways of making family unions or marriages instead of running away with other people\u2019s daughters. Now see how deadly it has become,\u201d he stated.<br \/>\nMadut warned that the search for the remaining suspects would continue until justice is served.<br \/>\n\u201cNo stone will be left unturned. Their families are known, and this could become a long-standing problem if not contained.
