The newly appointed Minister of Interior Aleu Ayieny Aleu has vowed to curb internal insecurity in a period of one month.
\nThe Minister made the promise while addressing a gathering during family reception on Wednesday following his swearing-in ceremony at the presidential palace.
\nAleu acknowledged the internal insecurity in the country, which he said will be dealt with by the police.
\nHe expressed that with the help of coordination and cooperation; the Ministry of Interior will try its best to curb the insecurity as soon as possible.
\nThe Minister added with efforts from the deputy minister; the issues of internal security will be reduced.
\nAleu revealed that he will be in position to be dismissed should they fail to handle the internal insecurity.
\n\u201cInternal insecurity is the work of the police. So, we, Mangar Buong [Deputy Minister of Interior] and I, need a full month; if it defeats us, Kiir should relieve us,\u201d Aleu said.
\nHe vowed to address internal insecurity within a month or face dismissal.
\nThe Minister expressed that the police remain in charge of the internal security, citing that there is no need for soldiers to stand on the roadsides.
\n\u201cIt is not the work of the army to stand on the roadside,\u201d Aleu said.
\nThe minister expressed that crimes and insecurity at the grassroots threaten the security in Juba as the city; hence, there is a need to stabilize security at the state and county levels.
\nHe called on the police commanders to cease all sorts of malpractices, citing that soldiers learn from their commanders.
\n\u201cThere is no bad soldier; if the commander is a thief, then he is a thief as well. If the commander does not know how to do his work, he does not know as well,\u201d he said.
\nMeanwhile, during the swearing-in at the President’s Palace, President Salva Kiir Mayardit urged officials, including the Minister of Interior, to transform their institutions.
\nAccording to the statement from the presidential press unit, Kiir directed Aleu to organize the police.
\n\u201cPresident Kiir directed the Minister of Interior to reorganize the police force in order to effectively enforce the rule of law to curb criminality in order to allow the citizens to conduct their activities freely,\u201d the statement partly read.
\nHe reiterated government support toward peace and stability.
