{"id":42396,"date":"2026-01-26T10:12:58","date_gmt":"2026-01-26T08:12:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=42396"},"modified":"2026-01-26T10:12:58","modified_gmt":"2026-01-26T08:12:58","slug":"refugees-urge-leaders-to-hold-dialogue-before-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/01\/26\/refugees-urge-leaders-to-hold-dialogue-before-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"Refugees Urge leaders to Hold Dialogue Before Elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>By Jurugo Emmanuel Ogasto<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Residents of Nyumanzi Refugee Settlement in Uganda have appealed to President Salva Kiir Mayardit to engage in dialogue with signatories to South Sudan\u2019s 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement before the country holds\u00a0 this year elections.<br \/>\nIn an exclusive interview with No.1 Citizen Daily Newspaper yesterday, some of the refugees said inclusive dialogue is necessary to address unresolved political issues and prevent a return to conflict.<br \/>\nDeng Peter said holding elections without prior dialogue among political leaders could deepen divisions and threaten fragile peace.<br \/>\n\u201cDialogue should come first so that leaders agree on the way forward. Elections must be held in a peaceful and agreed environment,\u201d he said.<br \/>\nAyen Martha also emphasized the need for unity among the peace agreement signatories, saying refugees continue to suffer the consequences of political instability.<br \/>\n\u201cAs refugees, we are watching what is happening at home. If leaders talk and resolve their differences, it will help bring peace and allow people to return,\u201d she said.<br \/>\nDhew Mary urged the president and political leaders to prioritize peace and the interests of ordinary citizens over political competition.<br \/>\nShe said meaningful dialogue would build confidence among citizens and create conditions for credible elections.<br \/>\nSouth Sudan has been implementing the 2018 Revitalized Peace Agreement amid challenges, including delays in key reforms needed to pave the way for elections.<br \/>\ne peace agreement signatories, saying refugees continue to suffer the consequences of political instability.<br \/>\n\u201cAs refugees, we are watching what is happening at home.
