{"id":43754,"date":"2026-03-30T16:38:04","date_gmt":"2026-03-30T14:38:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=43754"},"modified":"2026-03-30T16:38:20","modified_gmt":"2026-03-30T14:38:20","slug":"wes-governor-urges-youth-to-engage-in-farming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/03\/30\/wes-governor-urges-youth-to-engage-in-farming\/","title":{"rendered":"WES Governor urges Youth to engage in farming"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Lodu William Odiya<\/p>\n<p>The Governor of Western Equatoria State, Daniel Badagbu Rimbasa, has called on young people across the state to prioritize agriculture as a practical solution to hunger, poverty, and rising criminal activities.<br \/>\nIn a statement by issued by the WES Governor\u2019s press unit, during a Sunday service at St. Mary\u2019s Church in Yambio, Governor Rimbasa emphasized that the ongoing rainy season presents a critical opportunity for youth to actively engage in farming.<br \/>\n\u201cHe specifically encouraged young men aged 17 and above to take farming seriously, citing crops such as maize as both a reliable source of food and income\u201d the statement partly read.<br \/>\nHe urged them to utilize available land and labor to cultivate crops that can sustain their livelihoods and support their education.<br \/>\nThe governor highlighted agriculture as the backbone of the state\u2019s economy, noting that increased food production at the household level would not only reduce dependency but also strengthen food security across communities.<br \/>\nHe warned against negative behaviours such as alcohol abuse and involvement in criminal activities, particularly during politically sensitive periods.<br \/>\nAccording to the governor, such actions undermine peace, disrupt community stability, and hinder development efforts in the state.<br \/>\nGovernor Rimbasa further stressed the role of parents, guardians, and community leaders in shaping the future of young people. He called for stronger guidance, mentorship, and moral support to ensure that youth remain focused on productive activities<br \/>\nHe noted that proceeds from agricultural activities can help young people meet their basic needs, including school fees and other personal expenses<br \/>\nOn security, the governor reaffirmed his administration\u2019s commitment to restoring peace and stability across Western Equatoria State.
