The Governor of Northern Bahr el Ghazal State (NBGs), Charles Madut Akol, has sworn in new municipal and SPLM Liberation Council officials
\nThe governor called on the leaders to promote unity and deliver services effectively as the country approaches elections.
\nSpeaking during the ceremony at the SPLM House, Governor Madut urged the newly appointed leaders to carry out their responsibilities with integrity and commitment.
\n\u201cElection period is coming; kindly execute your duties in good faith,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is time to embrace democratic values through voting leaders in and out.\u201d
\nThe event was attended by senior officials, including State Advisor Awet Kiir Awet and Speaker of the State Assembly Abuk Jiel Dhieu, along with members of the SPLM secretariat from across counties and municipal councils.
\nDuring the ceremony, leadership of Majok-Yith-Thiou and Aweil Town municipal councils was officially installed. Moses Garang Malong will lead Majok-Yith-Thiou, while Garang Diing Deng heads Aweil Town.
\nIn a separate address, Governor Madut appealed to the Aweil community to remain calm following reports of violence in Jebel Iraq, where unconfirmed reports indicate that youth were killed by suspected armed groups.
\n\u201cAs reports emerge that Aweil youth have been killed by unknown individuals, I urge the community to stay calm,\u201d he said, adding that investigations are ongoing and findings will be made public.
\nMeanwhile, Speaker Abuk Jiel Dhieu called on the new municipal leaders to prioritize peaceful coexistence and support the reintegration of returnees.
\n\u201cI urge you to work around the clock to help our people settle peacefully, including those from other areas,\u201d she said.
\nThe newly sworn-in officials pledged to cooperate with the state government and SPLM leadership to improve the welfare of local communities despite ongoing challenges.<\/p>\n
