A humanitarian affairs officer with M\u00e9decins Sans Fronti\u00e8res (MSF) Belgium has called for increased humanitarian assistance to support thousands of displaced people fleeing violence in Jonglei State and other parts of the country.<\/p>\n

Speaking on behalf of MSF in Minkaman, Isabella Alonso said the situation in the riverside settlement is rapidly deteriorating, with more than 25,000 displaced people arriving recently.<\/p>\n

She warned that the sudden influx has overwhelmed already limited resources, leaving many families without adequate shelter, clean water, food, and access to basic healthcare.<\/p>\n

\u201cThousands of families have been forced to leave their homes due to conflict in Jonglei State. Over the past month, MSF has scaled up its response in Minkaman, where over 25,000 displaced people have arrived seeking shelter,\u201d Alonso said.<\/p>\n

She emphasized the urgent need for a coordinated humanitarian response to prevent further suffering, noting that women and children are among the most affected. She called on international agencies, donors, and the government to scale up emergency efforts, including the provision of medical supplies, sanitation facilities, and protection services.<\/p>\n

Alonso noted that MSF has already distributed essential non-food item kits\u2014including soap, blankets, menstrual hygiene materials, and water containers\u2014to nearly 3,600 families in areas such as Yol Akot, Gakarol, Marik, and Site Zero. The organization is also providing basic healthcare through mobile clinics, mental health support, and water treatment supplies.<\/p>\n

She added that Minkaman has historically served as a refuge for people displaced by conflict and flooding, but the current influx is stretching the capacity of existing services.<\/p>\n

\u201cMinkaman and surrounding areas are receiving new waves of displaced people, primarily from Duk, Bor South, and Twic East counties, with smaller numbers arriving from Ayod, Nyirol, and Akobo. Many are living in dire conditions, including sheltering under trees,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

While MSF Belgium and its partners continue to provide emergency medical care, Alonso stressed that more support is urgently needed to meet growing demands and prevent a worsening humanitarian crisis.<\/p>\n

She also called on all parties to respect the protection of civilians, as well as medical and humanitarian missions.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
