{"id":44139,"date":"2026-04-24T16:38:08","date_gmt":"2026-04-24T14:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/?p=44139"},"modified":"2026-04-24T16:38:08","modified_gmt":"2026-04-24T14:38:08","slug":"govt-launches-diplomatic-push-amid-reports-of-stranded-citizens-abroad","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.onecitizendaily.com\/index.php\/2026\/04\/24\/govt-launches-diplomatic-push-amid-reports-of-stranded-citizens-abroad\/","title":{"rendered":"Gov\u2019t launches diplomatic push amid reports of stranded citizens abroad"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><em><strong>By Yiep Joseph<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>The government has launched a coordinated diplomatic response to address growing concerns over the treatment and welfare of its citizens in Egypt, Sudan, Libya and other countries.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement released on Wednesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation said it is actively engaging with authorities in the affected countries to address the issue.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ministry, reports received through diplomatic channels and embassies indicate that some South Sudanese citizens have faced challenges, including detention, harassment, and forced deportations.<\/p>\n<p>Vulnerable groups such as women, children, students, and the elderly are among those affected, according to the report.<\/p>\n<p>The government, however, emphasised that it is pursuing a diplomatic and cooperative approach.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry noted that high-level discussions are ongoing between Juba and the capitals of the concerned states.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile we are committed to our diplomatic relations, the ministry has been engaging at the highest levels with the authorities of the above-mentioned countries both in Juba and their capitals,&#8221; the statement partly read.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFurthermore, the ministry is leading a multisectoral task force to redouble the ongoing efforts to resolve these disappointing and disturbing crises. The task force is mandated to address the forceful deportation of South Sudanese amicably through diplomatic channels,&#8221; it reads.<\/p>\n<p>The ministry reiterated its commitment to protecting South Sudanese nationals within and abroad.<\/p>\n<p>Foreign Affairs said the priority now is to stabilise conditions for those affected while continuing negotiations with host governments to prevent further incidents and improve protections for migrant communities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Ministry calls upon the South Sudanese citizens in Egypt, Sudan, Libya, and around the world to remain calm, be respectful to the laws of the host countries, and continue cooperating with the Embassies of South Sudan abroad, while the Government endeavors to resolve this crucial national matter,&#8221; the statement partly reads.<\/p>\n<p>The developments highlight the growing role of South Sudan\u2019s diplomatic missions in responding to migration-related challenges affecting its citizens across the region.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Yiep Joseph The government has launched a coordinated diplomatic response to address growing concerns over the treatment and welfare of its citizens in Egypt, Sudan, Libya and other countries.
