The Deputy Governor of Western Equatoria State has called for urgent collective action to restore peace between communities affected by ongoing tensions.<\/p>\n

During a high-level consultative meeting, Deputy Governor Justin Morona commended the efforts of the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS), particularly its Juba offices, for supporting communal peacebuilding initiatives between Western Equatoria State and Central Equatoria State.<\/p>\n

He urged UNMISS and other development partners to support what he termed the \u201cROkON Consensus,\u201d a proposed framework aimed at fostering cooperation and resolving disputes between the Muru and Munduri communities.<\/p>\n

The deputy governor, Morona, acknowledged ongoing grassroots peace efforts led by community leaders from Greater Mundri and Munduri, describing them as a strong foundation for sustainable peace. However, he stressed that meaningful dialogue can only succeed if violence on the ground is brought to an immediate halt.<\/p>\n

He raised concern over continued killings and cattle-related conflicts in Mundri East and Mundri West, allegedly involving armed cattle herders, calling for the immediate withdrawal of all hostile cattle herders from affected areas to allow communities to resume farming and normal livelihoods.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe killing must stop without delay,\u201d the deputy governor emphasised, urging law enforcement agencies in both states to remain on high alert and ensure that perpetrators are apprehended.<\/p>\n

Morona also highlighted the need for the recovery and return of stolen cattle to rightful owners. In cases where recovery proves difficult, he proposed the involvement of traditional leaders and elders, alongside faith-based groups, to mediate peaceful resolutions under the supervision of state authorities.<\/p>\n

He further called on intellectuals, politicians, youth, women, and traditional leaders to respect and uphold the ROCON Consensus as a stepping stone toward a broader peace dialogue.<\/p>\n

According to Deputy Governor Justin Morona, the proposed consensus will outline key steps, including organising a comprehensive peace conference, determining venue and participation, forming a technical committee, and drafting binding resolutions to be endorsed by both state governments.<\/p>\n

He emphasised that previous peace efforts provide valuable lessons, urging stakeholders to build on past experiences to ensure lasting solutions. \u201cIf we want to develop faster, we must invest in peace on a strong and concrete foundation,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The Deputy Governor Justin Morona appealed to the national government, UNMISS, and international partners to support the planned peace conference, which he said should culminate in a formal signing by the governors of Western Equatoria State and Central Equatoria State, with UNMISS serving as a witness.<\/p>\n

He concluded by stressing the urgency of ending recurring conflicts, noting that instability continues to undermine development efforts. \u201cEnough is enough.
